Ah..."minigun".  The least appropriate moniker since "small block V8".

I thought Charles and Julian lived in town?

Not much opportunity for plinking, I would have thought? Or can they create an indoor range in the basement or something?

When I first saw the above I couldn't help but think "Julian and Sandy".  ;D

I'll probably have to leave the country for writing that...

I've got a BSA Ultra.  We got an unexpected phone call this afternoon from a couple of friends who said they had a free afternoon and would we like to go and play with guns in their field.

:D

It's fabulous.  Being me-sized, it's tiny and compact and lightweight, and I can actually hit stuff with it.  Stuff I'm aiming at and everything.

A PCP. How are you recharging it ? Do you have a divers bottle in the sekrit bunker ? Is it a wooden one or the tactical plastic one ? Enquiring minds need to know.
Personally I like the old school self sufficiency of springers but PCPs do have a hitech charm of their own and are very very accurate (springers have a very complicated recoil action even compared to a normal rifle).
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I believe you can charge them with a track pump.

Never had one but possibly. Mind you these things run at approx 3000 psi. You can buy specialist air rifle pumps.

Specialist air rifle pump.

The springer I tried was nice, but it was just that bit more awkward to manage, slightly heavier and slightly longer.  Don't underestimate quite how short my arms are!

177 or 22?

Single shot or magazine?

Julian with her BSA Ultra:

Closeup gun pr0n:

They're both in .22.  The BSA is a single shot, mine is a 10 shot mag and a bolt-action.

We also got to play with this:

...which was almost as much fun  :D

It looks like a good rat-killer. I'd ask if it's for chicken protection, but I think there'd be legal issues about firing it in your garden.

Good for rats and bunnies, apparently.  Although I'm not going to test that until I'm absolutely 100% certain I can hit a target accurately.

It's not for chicken protection - no legal issues over firing it in the back garden as it's far enough away from the road, but legal issues over using it on foxes.

Springers need to be heavy to damp the recoil. You have to hold them differently too not gripping them tight but letting them move. .177s are much more twitchy then .22s as well. You can get carbine versions if you want as well (shorter)
That's a really nice PCP though Julian.
Since you live in a city and someone might report you for plinking I would highly recommend getting one of these chronographs
If your rifle is even a smidge over 12 foot lbs when the police test it (and they are allowed to any time they want to) the penalties are very severe (prison sentence and large fine). Ignorance is no defence and you aren't allowed to say that the dealer said it was sub 12lb it's your responsibility.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Watch your pellets.

One brand/weight might put you over while one will put you under 12ftlbs.

Keep the brand you know always gives you less than 12ftlbs in the zip up bag with the rifle just in case the plod should ever come round asking for it.

Don't run plastic skirted ones with the steel head, they will always chrono well over.

Doesn't make any difference at all. The police are allowed to chrono with their choice of pellet not yours. If it's over with their pellets your sunk, claiming its under with your usual pellet cuts no ice. That's why most guns get pre-set to 11.5 lbs to give a nice margin for error with different pellets.
