Personally I prefer to be heavy footed, then they clear off before I see them.

It comes from running across Chobham Common one Dusk and watching a snake uncoil from where my right foot was going in two strides time.

It could have equally been a grass snake or other snake but I know the local A&E holds (or did) the anti-venom
