Editing .ts movie files

I have a copy of a Panorama programme I want to edit and convert from a .ts file to another format. Windows Movie Maker won't handle it.
I have XP. Does anyone have a suggestions for a free editing package?
TIA

Here's some suggestions

Looks like VLC to play and you'll probably have to convert to edit.

The standard answer to how do I convert video is Handbrake, according to Google it will convert ts files as well. Haven't got it running on my computer to check...

For converting, WinFF will probably work. It can convert to and from loads of different types of video files.

Thanks everyone. I went round the houses a bit and managed to convert it to mpg, so Win Movie Maker could handle it.
The clip is now on YouTube.
