getting bike from rutland to York
« on: 16 March, 2015, 12:48:54 pm »
Hmm - well I've bought a bike - not for me. I'd assumed that the intended owner would pick it up, but they have work conflicts.

Now, I've worked out that a local bike shop will package it up, but not found a courier. Bike shops seem leery to to do the courier booking bit.
Any suggestions?

Anyone used parcel monkey? They seem to be cheepish https://www.parcelmonkey.co.uk/bikes

Book it yourself, I've found ParcelFarce via P4D to be generally the cheapest, and they pick up. About £30.

Been happy enough booking Parcelforce via SendItNow - from £13 depending on how fast and how much insurance.

Paisley Freight are worth a look, though I've only ever used them for skis.

In which case ParcelForce via a 3rd party. Price I gave was from P4D for biggish bike box - 1800 x 400 x 900mm and 15kg.

Parcelforce have max girth of 3m - a 136cmx22cm box is bigger than this.

Well I've sent several bike via PF with no issues (though not for a year or so) - and as I said via P4D where no size problems were flagged up when I booked.

As per your suggestion I used P4D. Which booked it by parcelforce (but the main parcel farce site said it was too big).

I've had a frame delivered by Parcelforce, from a sender who'd put it in a clearly oversize bike box.

PF found this objectionable enough to have put a yellow sticker on it.

No delay, no surcharge, no comment from the driver on delivery.
