Dez on telly again
« on: 17 September, 2008, 02:35:14 pm »
Tonight on Look east, apparently at 6.30 or thereabouts.

He was interviewed at lunch time today near Southend Airport, whose owners want to expand it. As FoE organiser locally, he was explaining why it was a really bad idea and against the public interest.

I've added a bit of impartiality for you there, in case Look East's journalistic integrity is compromised ;)

I shall look out for it tonight. Who is Dez, by the way?

No, he was explaining why it was a really bad idea. At no point did he explain how he personally arrived at that conclusion. ;)

What I didn't say earlier, because I was about to go out, was that the airport owners were supposed to be saying why expanding the airport was a good idea. I understand, though, that for some reason they were reluctant to face the cameras. Whether they did so behind closed doors, I don't know.

Very eloquent young man - point well made.

But the other side of the argument was also interesting.

"A longer runway would allow larger, yet quieter and more efficient aircraft, to use the airport."

True or False I wonder? Flybe use Dash-8's into Norwich, which are amazingly quiet - even on the climbout. I've been riding past Norwich airport before now, and a 4-seat Cessna made much more noise taking off than the 17:30 to Edinburgh that followed it.

Local infrastructure is a good argument though. What are the road/rail connections like? Stansted is brilliant for transport interactions - as good as Gatwick; nearby motorway, and railway station inside the terminal complex. Norwich is quite hard to get to - esp by public transport. How is it at Southend?

"A longer runway would allow larger, yet quieter and more efficient aircraft, to use the airport alongside the noisy ones we have at the moment."

I corrected that for you.
It is simpler than it looks.

I corrected that for you.

But I didn't think that was what the chap said. Did you see it?
