Neither Artistic nor Entertaining
« on: 23 September, 2008, 02:46:08 pm »
In my office, I listen to Radio 4.  It's comforting.  It's informative.  It's stimulating for the mind.  Sometimes, I get to hear Popmaster on R2 with Ken Bruse.

In the admin office outside, they listen to some awful awful pop radio station.

It appears there are only two records on release at the moment:

American Boy by Estelle(?)

I Kissed A Girl by Fauxlez Parry.

There is nothing else, and these records are played on rotation

All

Bloody

Day.

Y'know what?  Estelle, if you're so taken with your American Boy, just fly the hell over there to be with him.  And Perry?  Ur so gay, yeah?  No.  You're just boring.  Stop.

Radio 4 is the last bastion of civilization. A radio station that actually assumes you might have an IQ above 50. I am a big fan.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

There is Radio 3 as well. I oscillate between 3 & 4.

Radio 6: it's like Radio 2 but for people who consider themselves too cool to listen to Radio 2.
I listen to it a lot in the afternoon and Radio 4 in the morning.

or: radio 2 with the more boring old farts removed.

(At the weekend you may hear a jovial quiz entitled "Ken Bruce Master" - well, it made me laugh ... )

But no use for FM listeners, obviously.

Edit: I forgot to mention; if you don't like Elbow, you might want to give 6Music a couple of weeks before you try it ...

Was that at me? If I hadn't gone bald, you wouldn't think me a day over thirty. And I'm almost thirty-one!

It took me a year or so to get my warehouse manager to switch from the local radio station with it's CD collection of 3 CDs to Radio 2. I think that Radio 4 would be a bridge too far.
But Radio 2 is pretty good.
The record of the week this week is the new record by ACDC ;D
They even play some Black Sabbath, Jimmi Hendrix and The Doors, to name a few, sometimes.
Radio 4 wouldn't work too good in a warehouse anyway. You'd lose the thread of the converstion, especialy when I start the saw up.

BTW, would anyone else turn the volume down on "I Kissed A Girl" or change channels, if they were in the car with their children when it came on... I think I might...  :-\

I love R2 apart from Sarah Kennedy, but I have expounded on that at length several times. So my clock radio in the bedroom is now on R4 and I'm constantly late for work because speech all sounds the same without tunes to break it up and I'm not picking up on the timechecks. I wish we were allowed the radio at work because I love PopMaster. I was on it once, a few years ago, and my friends all laughed because I didn't know the Coldplay question but I got the Chi-lites.

Is Sarah Kennedy really clever and just pretending to be that thick?

Or is she really that thick?

She certainly sounds it.  But if she really had so little brain capacity and really believed all that Daily Mail sh1t, she'd have trouble even breathing.

George-bloody-Lamb prevents me listening to 6 in the mornings.  Then I listen to the night before's Radcliffe & Maconie from R2.

I'd change channels cause it's crap, but for no other reason.

When I was a student, I took on a second job (in addition to my oh-so-civilised library one) in the holidays.

It was in a warehouse, unpacking boxes. There was a CD player and one of the other temps was the boss woman's daughter and hence did what she liked.

She put the Justin Timberlake album on a loop the whole damn time, and we worked from 9am to 10pm. At first it was ok, but I was twitching feverishly by the end of it. How anyone can listen to something exclusively for that long was beyond me. I think I heard those songs in my dreams...

Remove fuse from plug, hide spare fuses, problem solved.

If they are smart enough to go out and buy new fuses, remove mains lead and hide it, if they buy a new mains lead cut the plug off.  they'd lose patience before I would :)

R2 is good apart from Jeremy Bloody Vine. I have to turn the radio off between 12 and 2. Chris Evans is good though!

JBV is a problem.  Cause if I turn to R4, it's You & Bloody Yours!  Shame I don't have DAB in the office, but my FM radio is purty. :)
