Why are lots of 2016 rides BRM ?
« on: 07 November, 2015, 02:07:27 pm »
I thought BRM events were for people qualifying for PBP.   With PBP just done why are so many 2016 rides classified as BRM ?

ACP 5000k & 10000k medals?

BRM just means they're also validated by ACP - as T42 says, that means you can use them to count for ACP awards. Also, a lot of long international brevets that require qualifiers need BRMs - their organisers may not accept BRs.

There may be an even more mundane reason.

The Organisers copy the event over from 2015 when setting it up (rather than typing it in again).  If it was a BRM in 2015 then it will default to that in 2016.  You have to proactively reset it to a BR.

^^^Aye. Back when our league calendar was on paper the sloppy but officious sod who looked after it used to cut & paste from one year to the next, and screwed people up no end.

Writing as a org. We are encouraged to run >200k events as BRM may attract travellers and points collectors. The locals are not bothered, many don't know the difference.  As all my routes are kept close to the points distance there is nothing to be gained by running as BR apart from a reduced validation fee. Oh and the acp validation sticker looks good

which takes us neatly back to the 14.3 question...

I'm happy to run my non-BRM events at 14.3, but they're all less than 200.

If the event is 410km the org gets to bed half an hour earlier

That indeed.
I had scheduled a nighttime 200 in Tours (France) for next month. But then I heard from the organiser that it was not a BRM so I cancelled my participation. It wouldn't count for AUK points and wouldn't count for either AUK or Dutch RRTY.

It could have counted as an AUK brevet, Ivo.
Members can overlay AUK brevets on just about any event, particularly those that look and feel like an audax.
This was introduced in response to the German 1200 and the regulatory gymnastics the Board had to perform to avoid it becoming an issue again.

I thought this was still to be decided at this year's AGM; ISTR voting in favour of it

I think the Board adopted it pro tem, or whatever Latin legalese Paul used, so it is in force but a vote at the AGM is needed to ratify its application from the date of the Board meeting where it was adopted and to incorporate it into regulations going forward.

But yes, "subject to AGM ratification" should have been added.

Ivo, it is possible to ride 200km because it's a good route and you'll enjoy the ride. Points don't make a ride, memories do.

During a normal month I'd agree. But in order to be a bit rested for the harder rides I decided to do only one 200 per month in november and december. And that one should count. For an nth 200 I wouldn't mind that much.
