Couldn't he sleep last night. Would have thought he was knackered from all that wind.

Ah it was the thought of having a tail wind that got him up. Some easy and fast miles.

I now it kind of goes without saying that what he is doing is constantly impressive....but that ride yesterday was really astonishing.   He covered that distance into a headwind at a really impressive speed and looked like he was able to ease up on the home stretch.   Hopefully that has meant he is well rested and on for a nice tailwind effort today.

110 miles in before 1pm ..... this is either going to result in a very welcome, early finish ....or a much bigger mileage day if he pushed on towards his normal finish time ...both of which are very good things in mid November.

Performance on individual days are largely irrelevant.

I may be the only one, but when I see "big effort" days, my next thought is usually "hope it doesn't come back and bite".

Steve's sensible.  On top of it.  But these last couple of days won't be the last of the weather affected rides over the next couple of months.  My impression is that the next 3 months are about minimising losses, not making gains.  I look forward to being shown that I'm a pint glass half empty kind of guy :)

ill never see the sense in 200 miles into the wind, Kurt yesterday did laps of a 5 mile circuit for something like 80 miles, seems a much more sensible and id have thought less energy sapping solution

Steve knows his own body better than anyone.  As this is day 315. I am guessing he knows what he is doing.  Keep it up.

Allez Steve

Might be a mental thing as well...  If you ride 5 mile loops for hours then you are still against the wind for large parts of the loop.  You don't really get that much of a mental boost. ...and you get no benefit the following day.

If you ride 180 miles into a headwind, in the knowledge you will have consistent wind direction for the following day then you know you get the chance of fast, full days tailwind blast.   It must have been a nice feeling waking up this morning knowing he had done 'the hard work' yesterday.  Earning himself little boosts like that may well be the kind of thing that keeps him going over the year(and a half)

Steve is out and back everyday, self supported so he doesn't get as many tailwind days as Kurt ..that's not a knock of Kurt ... its just reality.

Certainly got the bit between his Teethgrinder teeth today, marvellous mileage and still probably 30 miles to go on top of the 192 showing on Ivans tracker.

Go Go Go Steve!!

Currently 218 on the tracker and I reckon at least 10 miles to do. I reckon when it's up it will be close to 240.

238.6 tracker miles and it's turned off.

*drums fingers watching Strava..*

An amazing day's work. I will try, tomorrow, to manage 20% of Steve's distance.

396.2 km. That's 247.5 miles, according to my approximate mental calculation. Brilliant!

In such conditions, an unbelievably great result, with a typical modest Strava comment of 'I didn't quite make it home before midnight' with the extra 0.3 miles added just affterwards.

A magnificent result Steve. That pulls back a few miles towards the TG WR line.
