Given the forecast, he really needs to be finished by mid-evening at the very latest.

Be safe, Steve!

Assuming he will do an about turn at some point and ride back home, this seems a wise strategy given the forecast - ride into the headwind when it's relatively light, then get a mega tailwind home. Hope it works out ok. Stay safe out there Steve in that weather!

Indeed. It's going to be a gusty bully, not a nice friendly shove home  :(.

I think Greasy Joes shut last year, now all the local clubs ride to Chedworth instead

Im not far from Steve at the moment...and I live in the bottom of a valley, and I am genuinely scared for him....its wild here and he is at one of the highest points in the county at the moment.

Im half in awe of him and half terrified for him!

Steve is currently about 30 miles from home.

He could do with bypassing that and carrying on to somewhere like Newmarket with this tailwind.

Unfortunately tomorrows forecast is for a strong south westerly again and he can only go about 70 miles further east from Newmarket which would leave a huge struggle on the return tomorrow.

It's a week like this that really emphasises the difficulties of attempting a feat of this magnitude in our small country.

If any day called for an overnight transfer back to Bristol this would be the one.

Whatever distance Steve ends up with today, it will have been an amazing effort. I just hope he finishes safely.

Remember, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A TAILWIND.  There's either a headwind, or you're going well.

Interesting discussion with Steve at the weekend with regard to taking advantage of sheltered roads against the wind, and of exposed ones with the wind.  He does have a pretty thorough knowledge of the roads within a substantial radius of MK.

Curious goings-on with trackers today, on both sides of the Atlantic. Steve seems to have stopped a mile or two from home and the trackpoint is still showing - has done for 50 minutes or so, and Kurt only seems to have done 93 miles so far. Did I read somewhere that it ended up on a trip to Walmart because he forgot to transfer it when he swapped bikes?

Kurt's SPOT tracker on the other bike and off to Walmart was yesterday I think. Steve is home safe and dry now as his track is uploaded to Strava - 170 windy miles.

The Tarzan-O-Matic is only showing 96 miles and a 14 hour day, both of which are somewhat atypical.
