Title: Odd looking insect
Post by: ElyDave on 30 March, 2017, 03:47:41 pm
I don't have a photo, but I'm wondering if it was a type of bee?

I was out in the greenhouse having a chat with the seedlings and I saw, or heard three buzzy things.

One was a definite mumblebee, the other looked like a kind of wasp (from conformation, not the black/yellow stripy type), and the third looked a bit odd.

Hairy like a bee, but a monotone buff/sandy colour, with a long, permanently extended proboscis - any ideas?

Yep.  I thought it flew more like a fly than a bee
