Well that was had work! Thoroughly enjoyable though, and one i'm quite proud to have finished. The gail force winds on Dun Fell certainly proved a little challenging.
What a lot of effort just for a cloth badge.

Looking at this one for next year. Is there any reason folks (on Strava) prefer to go up Garsdale head, rather than Buttertubs as in this route I have found on Ridewith GPS? Maybe a control point?

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/10503916

The reason I am asking is because I have done Garsdale head twice and don't fancy the descent into Cowgill at the best of times, let alone if the weather is poor. I don't even fancy the 20% ascent to be perfectly honest  ;D

For 2018 the AUK page mentions A (1), which means one night free or reasonably priced accomodation, but there is no explanation there or on the webpage for the event. Can anyone elucidate?

Did anyone receive word (GPX / routesheet) from Andy about next week's rides?

This one is based on last year's route and I've checked it against this year's route sheet (not line by line though). It's what I'll be using unless Andy pops up and says it's utter codswallop! :D

With the burn from half a Mille Cymru in my belly, I'm ready for anything!  ;D

GDFell and Garsdale head aside, it looks fairly benign... those two are sheer walls though... will probably be hot, but you should be used to by now...  ;D

48 riders started the 3rd edition of the Knock Ventoux 300 from Burnley at 06:00 am this morning. I'll be catching up with them all at the summit of Great Dun Fell later today.

Weather conditions look a bit better than previous years so hoping for some fine views across the Pennines.

yes, a fabulous day out, many thanks to Andy for putting this on, great views across the forest of bowland, then Morecambe bay, then towards yad moss, finally following the rail line back to settle, what I didn't realise was the ride has not one but 3 of the top 100 climbs on it!! Garsdale Head was a killer.

A great ride Andy
Thank you for organising this fabulous but challenging ride. Some seriously challenging climbs, stunning scenery and great company but for me the best thing (or maybe the greatest relief) was the last 40km from the final control point back to the start was really manageble. a great way to finish an excellent days cycling
Thank you also to everyone I rode with on the ride particularly Richard and Liz who I met several times and rescued me when I was having a  momentary navigation crisis.

Yes, it was a great day out, and many thanks to Andy for such a cracking and traffic free ride. Also a big thanks to the car mechanic in Langbathwy for lubing my seized-up pedal, without whom I would not have been able to experience the delights of Gt Dun Fell. Made Garsdale Head feel straightforward by comparison.

Will be back to the Pennines/Dales next year for sure, I've been away too long - so a PBP SR I think.

Ah... orange guy !
You must have had a blast from Settle... I was trying too hard to overcome calorie deficit getting there & fighting nausea  for the first 45minutes... very pleased to see an a-road mind as my climbing was pitiful by then !

Strava for those that care... maybe just for the piccies :D

Clocked another 120km between leaving home on Friday morning & getting home Sunday, although took the flattest way back to Preston just in time for spoons opening for brekkie.

The date for this year's edition is: Sunday 28 April 2019!

This year's edition follows the 2016 route. A clockwise circuit out of Lancashire, passing through the Trough of Bowland and into the Lune Valley. An incursion into Cumbria introduces riders to the mighty Great Dun Fell, at 848 metres asl, the highest paved road accessible by bike in the British Isles (unless anybody can find one that's higher that is)! The return leg climbs over Tan Hill, Harkerside Moor and Kidstones. The last 20-miles or so is mainly on A-roads which will benefit those still out when it goes dark. Good training for the Fort William 1000; Inverness 1200 and/or PBP. Entry fee: £8.50. 5.5 AA points on offer for grimpeur points chasers.

Still not too late to enter. About 60 entries so far! Event info' and route-sheet going out before the weekend.

Optional free breakfast, typically cereal/toast, tea/coffee/juice etc on offer before the start. Light refreshments will be available at the finish as per usual.
