Brooks saddle tension pin

Apologies if this has been covered before

I need to replace the tension pin on Mrs DFs Brooks B17, current one is seized to the bolt and the whole assembly just spins when I try to adjust it. Can anyone recommend a shop (apart from Brooks themselves) who can replace this for me?  I have an uprated pin with the Allen key recess in the end to prevent a recurrence.

Thanks in advance

A

I've done it twice myself, although both times because the pin broke. Once was 40+ years ago, the other much more recently.

The first time was a real struggle, but I managed it by using a long screwdriver as a lever. I may have had to use a vice or something to hold the saddle still as well (probably on the seat pin or similar). The more recent one just slipped into place no problem. Both worked fine afterwards.

You can't get some mole grips or similar onto the bolt to hold it while you shift the nut? And you are using a proper Brooks spanner, which will grip the nut better than a regular one?

Update

In the end I contacted Brooks who asked me to send the saddle in to the Smethwick location and even agreed to use the updated, non standard tension pin. 1 week later the saddle has returned, sorted, not even a request for payment.

That’s pretty impressive

Many moons ago yacf (or it might even have been acf) had an outing to tour the Brooks factory at Smethwick - absolutely fascinating . . .  perhaps a re-run might be considered?

IIRC Jaded* and Camrman (in his previous incarnation) were there, as was I - don't remember the others

Indeed. It was so well subscribed that I think we went in in two shifts. I went in with Gordy, Kim and others.
I have some pictures somewhere…

Indeed it was 2 groups . . . and our cycling club has been a couple of times (in lieu of a Weds ride in the depths of winter)

I seem to recollect you had sneaked off from your office in Central Brum?

The pin on my B17 broke so needed replacing. Not quite the same issues as yours, but I contacted Brooks who said SJS Cycles are their seller of spare parts.

I believe the Brooks trip was organised by Oscar’s Dad. ISTR that I travelled up with Fatters on that occasion.
