What do you do with your old tyres?

How do you retire tired tyres? How often?

Just replaced my elderly marathon pluses with duranos. The marathons had plenty of tread but the sidewalls were cracking and I'd had a puncture that left a small slit.

I do hang on to tyres till they are well used but then I just put 'em in the bin :[ is it such a sin?

With open tubulars (and tubulars) I peel off the tread and cut off the beads/trim to make tyre boots.

Other tyres are used to protect wheels and rims.

I take mine to the local 'tip' and put them in with the vehicle tyres.

Spotted on my ride yesterday. Oddly some of the tyres looked very new.

Sorted:

Meanwhile in a secret bunker, a old bike tyre is being preserved.
