Easter is a busy time for me with all the different choir bits and pieces, so I only get Monday to do some nice cycling. Why has the weather decided that's the day to chuck it down all day :(

Bank holiday weekend.  It's a tradition, an old charter or something.

5 hours on a Voyager ahead of me. I checked again and again, and it was MEANT to be an HST.

And I've just rounded off a sillier-than-riding-to-York-on-studded-tyres FNRttC in sub-zero temperature with an hour and a bit on a Pendolino with overenthusiastic air conditioning and a PA turned up to 11 - you could see everyone in the quiet coach jump at the first burst of feedback whenever they tried to give us live updates (see rants passim) on the sandwich shop status.

I spent an hour and a half in a carriage today with a group of increasingly pissed young men, whose language got steadily louder and more sweary as we got to Manchester.

When challenged by a gentleman to pipe down a bit, they got louder on purpose.

When we all got up to get off, they loudly explained their behaviour to this same gentleman. Apparently, this bunch of louts are members of our esteemed infantry, and this makes it ok for them to make other people's journey's unpleasant. Because "we do what other people don't want to".

Frankly, I have more respect for people who have to wipe old people's bums in homes. I found myself hoping they all get shot.

At least one was wearing a regimental sweatshirt. Do the Army care how they behave when in civvies?

I also noticed that they piped down and were nice as pie whenever a member of train staff came along. Seems they're only bothered about authority, and not any of the ordinary people they claimed to be fighting for....

Letter to the RSM Arch?

In other news I've just melted my Mooncup and set fire to its bag.

 :(

I did wonder about that.

Oh no! Were you boiling it? I'm always worried I'll do that.

Sadly not, I was boiling them for 7 minutes and started reading the paper, then the cryptic crossword caught my eye, I'd just started on the sudoku when I realised there was smoke pouring out of the kitchen door and a strange smell of burning cotton and hot silicone rubber. The house stank for a while, now it is just bloody cold.

I was boiling the bag because I'd had to store the cup in there pre-boil so I thought it should get a sterilise as well. Don't think there's anything alive on either thing now.

Has anybody seen my memory?

If they spring out in the wrong direction, it's entirely likely that they could affect your memory...

Why does baking powder no longer have the quantity required to make self raising flour written on the side? I'll get floury hands on the Internet if I'm not careful.

Good news, the self-raisingness of the flour appears to have half-done the job.  So it's probably going to end up as high-density audax cake, rather than biscuit.

Why is it, that whenever I put on a nice shiny new cycling top in a nice colour that I really like, that I have to fettle something in the wild, and get oil on it?

Every nice thing I own has oil stains.   >:(

Have you tried Swarfega? Apply to dry clothing, rub in well, then rinse out. Worked well for me when I leaned back against my trike chainring in the back of MFWHTBAB's car...

Well I now have a mostly clean & lubed bike, but I forgot to mark the saddle position when I took it off and now I'm going to be fiddling with it for ages on my next ride  :(
