WINTRY April showers left part of this weekend’s Tour de Yorkshire route under several inches of snow this morning.

The moorland roads between Castleton and Rosedale in the North York Moors were covered as temperatures plummeted to 1 degree.

Fluffy hail here in SW London this afternoon, very briefly. I wouldn't quite call it snow, but it wasn't far off.

Tour of Yorkshire this week, I have been looking forward to this, we have a week off and looking forward to, well, a spot of sunshine, Hah, the sky is battleship grey and a North Easterly wind is throwing hard white stuff at us.

It was snowing around Sutton Bank at 7a.m. today.

Big snowflakes coming down here. Last night we had some sort of weird snow/hail hybrid, too. ???

There were gritting lorries on the M2 last night.

For info, here are the summaries of the past 6 Aprils in Southend:-

                                        HEAT   COOL         AVG
      MEAN                               DEG    DEG          WIND                  DOM
YEAR   TEMP   HIGH  TIME    LOW   TIME    DAYS   DAYS   RAIN  SPEED   HIGH  TIME    DIR
2011      13.3   26.1    23     5.5    11   242.3    0.0     4.1  4.8    37.0    30    NE
2012       9.0   17.4     2    -0.7     6   478.1    0.0    82.9  6.0    46.7    26    SW
2013       8.5   23.6    25    -1.3     7   509.5    0.0    27.0  6.7    46.7    18    NE
2014      11.9   20.6     1     3.0    15   323.8    0.0    34.0  4.6    35.4     8    SW
2015      10.2   26.8    15     2.7     7   419.2    0.0    15.6  5.2    41.8     1    ENE
2016       9.2   17.7    19     1.4     1   429.7    0.0    44.6  4.7    38.6     6    SW

So 2012 and 2013 were colder. I think this is probably the coldest last week in April I have recorded.

For those that can remember we once had snow in June. And then a blazing hot long summer followed.
4th June 1974? I woke up shivering, got up to shut my bedroom window, & saw the Chiltern hills gleaming white in the early morning sunshine. Went back to sleep, & woke up a couple of hours later to go to school, wondering if it had been a dream. Snow had gone. Switched on the radio & they were reporting it on the news, so it was obviously true.

Yesterday I was cycling in short sleeves in Catalonia. Today I am in Edinburgh. Snow.

I am SERIOUSLY not impressed.
