Here in EC3 there was a very decent flurry which darkened the entire glass goldfish bowl I am currently working in.
Peering out from the 8th floor towards the Gherkin, it vanished in a whiteout.

But it passed as quickly as it appeared.

You must be in a different area of Glasgow from me, is been quite heavy on and off here in the north east corner of the city for a while now. It looks like I won't be driving through for this weekends F&T as I think the event must be in doubt now

There's enough lying around, combined with some melty slush, that I'm not really looking forward to the commute tomorrow.  Just nipped over to the audax control and it's getting pretty crunchy underfoot...

We've got a centimetre or so of settled snow, and I had to apply unreasonable force to get the wheeliebin lid to open, so I decided that putting it out for the binmen was likely a waste of time.

It snowed on me as I was riding home. This was a very pleasant sort of riding in falling snow, completely unlike the wind-whipped, stinging stuff that fell on me a fortnight ago around Faringdon. Of course it melted. But then it snowed again and has only mostly melted. I'm predicting a bit of ice on quiet roads tomorrow morning but mostly clear.

Dear BBC News and ITV News and SKY News

I know what the fuck snow looks like.  There's really no need to make your news crews travel to a remote village*, just to tell us not to try travelling to remote villages.

If it's August... and it's snowing in Guildford, fair enough...send a news crew, then I'm interested.... but it's winter.


* Alternatively just show me library footage from previous years (You have about 70 years of identical winter footage to choose from).

Oh good grief, the BBC has managed to photograph someone skiing down their high street.  How original.  Is it snow, an old bed sheet or a coat of fresh whitewash¿ It really is so thin I can't be sure.  Sad, unimaginative, jerknalism.  Nearly as depressing as the summer pictures that would have you believe only pretty girls can get good A levels or that come autumn it is impossible to get a degree without passing a unit in advanced hat tossing.

They sort of still do. BBC now uses Meteogroup (like F1) but Meteogroup don't actually have their own supercomputers and data gathering. They are more like a weather aggregator and presentation service (they do good maps and visualisation and can do it for anywhere in the world) and they get their weather data for the UK from the Met Office.

I measured the snow depth at 5” this morning. It is snowing heavily again now and forecast to do so for most of the night. The temperature is also -6 deg C. That is very extreme for Saarfend.

Oh, that -6 figure is some official assessment as delivered via my phone. My own weather station does not bear this out, reporting a niggardly -3.8 deg C.

It was making a fairly convincing attempt at it five minutes ago, but got bored quite quickly.  I can still see the double yellow lines outside Larrington Towers through it.  Which is a bit of a Rubbish, really.
