We are taking a rucksack and bringing supplies back.

Just got back from work in Bristol. Unfortunately I have to be back there for 6pm and roads out this way are bad. Total grittage failure on the A38 near here, sheet ice covered with impacted snow. Average moving speed 5 mph.
I have about 8 inches of snow at home.

Leatherhead: woke up to heavy snow. Looks like it's ankle-deep already judging by the pedestrians walking by. We had half an inch or so yesterday which turned to black ice up on the Downs (the drive home last night was interesting: I found myself taking a road I hadn't originally intended when I hit a patch of ice on the junction and the safest way to recover control involved a rapid compromise of navigation).

We were supposed to have been on the Santa Special steam train with my gandson at Toddington in Gloucestershire .... cancelled, although that seems a poor show as the main man has a sleigh and reindeer .. journey from Stratford-upon-Avon (snowing steadily for the past 3 hours) would have been interesting.

This morning on my way to collect my car in Longparish (I left it in pub carpark last night and didn't really check the forecast for my usual Saturday morning collection ride).

The good news is that I rode my MTB for the first time in several years and I got to ride on traffic-free lanes on the most beautiful crisp and crunchy snow. There was loads of traction until I finally arrived at a main road where it was all compacted slush.

The downside is that I booted the "Whale-Tail" off my bike when I swung my leg over and broke the bracket. My arse got wet and cold.
