Wet as a wet Welsh weekend here. Very mild - 9°C.

There was a gentle layer of snow in Darlo which laid from about 10 am to 2 pm.  The roads remained clear, but pavements not so much.

Well, I'm off to Whistler where there's been 1 meter + of fresh snow over the last week. Should be good!

Wet here too. Rain today and temperature "7 degrees of warmth" as FiL put it. Terribly slippery roads immediately round us - water on ice over the entire width - but the tarmacced roads are now all clear. Dirty puddles in town. Everyone coughing. Yeah, thaw flu is here.  :(

It certainly is.  Except it's horizontal snow combined with a gale force wind.

It's because we planned our 100k for tomorrow.

And the slush has now frozen to a rock hard layer an inch thick.

Damn cold & icy last night (I was wheelspinning on the way home on 37 mm tyres after dark) but it's a fabulous day today.  Cloudless blue skies & warmi(ish) sunshine :)

Just back from a very short pootle to the shop to buy some electricity (about 1.5 miles each way, West Swindon) with largely the same experience as interzen. Bright, sunny and quite pleasant, but very chilly and a bit of frost on the cycle paths in places.

Have also heard on the Facebook grapevine that at least one local biker acquaintance has dropped his motorbike somewhere near Trowbridge.

David set out early to lead a Brent Cyclists ride to Windsor.
Fell off on ice less than a mile from home, bruising his shoulder and had one pannier fall off.
Continued to meet riders at Kingsbury Station (0), Kenton Station (0) and North Harrow (1).
Decided to retreat home after he skidded again.
Ortlieb pannier has broken clip. Replacement ordered.

He's now off on the buses to Ruislip Lido, where he'll freeze his nuts off entetaining punters at the Stargazing LIVE event. There were 250 punters last night.

Ouch!  It seems quite a few of my mates have fallen off yesterday too.  Hope the bruises aren't too bad.

He's not let me look but has reasonable function.
He has audibly complained of pain rather frequently but insisted on cycling to a station three miles away.

It was horribly skiddy yesterday.  It must have been a combination of skill, judgement and extreme luck which saw me through, though I did have one inadvertent moment of horizontality while proceeding very slowly across a sheet of ice.  No lasting harm, as far as I can tell.

The weather forecast was predicting much milder weather towards the end of the week.

Whereas I relied primarily on blind faith and a sense of fatalism :)  Glad to hear there's no lasting damage!

I would think that it's probably not going to snow again here in London - I just bought two pairs of yaktrax.  One for us, and one for my bro who broke his hip after falling badly on ice last year.

It's not over until Clarion gets his tyres, though.

It's the accent.

Oh no, hang on, it is Bristol that adds an 'wl' to 'a's
It is simpler than it looks.

Winter's returned :(

Moderate flurries in Norfolk this morning, with a dusting on the ground.

You might get them in time for the next bout of snow. I thought I was imagining it at first but there were definitely a few flakes floating around in the air this morning, brought in by the bitterly cold Siberian wind, no doubt.

Winter is far from over, folks.

According to some sources, the most vicious blizzard to strike Britain during the twentieth century was on 5th March 1947. Apparently that was also the wettest March for 300 years.

The 1947 winter didn't get going until the last week of January (or so I'm told).
