Boiling water, after having spent an hour removing elderberries from their stalks with a fork.  Homebrew time again  :D

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble... Go easy on the eye of newt, Dave.

Meanwhile, I am inhaling the aroma of soda bread baking and thinking gourmandizing thoughts.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Sitting out the back of my local with a beer for the first time in erm, 5 months is it?
To be honest, the beer is not great.   :-\
Don't think I'll be back for a while.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Not sleeping. Not feeling sleepy either.

Watching some builders on the road taking a wall down using some vibrating tool with no ear protection and sighing.
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Gathering strength before attacking lunch prep. Lots of chopping to do.

Before that, holding a straight piece of wood against the wall in the hall and looking ruefully at the bulges and hollows.  Some jobs just shouldn't be started.  I really wanted to make a zither. :(

Imagine my reaction when walking out of Ely railway station to see a bloke in a hole, with a small petrol powered engine next to him, and another bloke bending over filling it with petrol with a fag in his mouth whilst it was still running!

Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me

Straight edge or plasterers scrim.

EDIT read why...steam the wood to the shape of the wall.

They're all men, aren't they?

This is why they'll go extinct and females will reproduce parthenogenically. Eventually. My money in on next Wednesday.

Later on, a bloke turned up with a digger (I refuse to use the brand name, the manky Tory apologists). Said digger was being operated over the heads of two other builders. Nary a hard hat in sight.
Oh and when they reversed the truck towards the rest of the wall to receive the digging debris, they hit the wall, despite being guided in.

Our street has had a powercut since 1630 so I'm sitting in the dark.  SSE are rummaging around in the substation.

Researching the post-Roaring Jack discography of said beat combo's late front man Alistair Hulett.  Seems he recorded three albums with Dave “El Diablo” Swarbrick off of that Fairport Convention, four solo discs and one with The Malkies.  Whoever they are.  Probably not second-division villains out of Ian Rankin novels.  Anything to avoid going to Mr Sainsbury’s House of Toothy Comestibles.

Playing with my VLF rx kit again.

Today is United Nations day.
The UN came into being on the 24th October,1945, it's aim "to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation".
That's going well, then.

To mark UN day, the World Heritage site Grimeton Radio (callsign SAQ) at Varberg, Sweden sends out a message to the world in Morse Code, using the last remaining electromechanical VLF transmitter in the world.

This year's message was composed by Anders Tegnell, Chief Epidemiologist of the Public Health Agency of Sweden.

Watching a steady stream of cars doing U-turns in the road outside my window.

They've all driven past two separate "ROAD AHEAD CLOSED" signs (with suitable diversions on them) but, being classic SW London, they've obviously decided that those signs probably won't apply to them and have pushed on through.

That is until they find the road impassable due to it having been dug up by Thames Water for emergency repairs.

Looking forward to the various private school buses that use this route too, they're due in an hour or so...
