MIDDLETON TYAS

A bunch of Swedes at 04.15.  Who would believe that the Swedish could complain about British weather? ;)

A bike ridden by a fast Italian.  Remarkable for the sharp contrast between "fast" and "useful".  Unfortunately, the picture doesn't show that he had gone to the trouble of having the route sheet translated into Italian, and fitted to rollers, so he could scroll up and down en route.  We were impressed.

MSeries, Warburton and Bob (not, I believe, of this parish)

An Israeli rider's bike.  NOT designed for sidewinds.

A bunch of Dutch:

All the Dutch riders were wearing jerseys made especially for the occasion.  Note the pockets on the front of one jersey. especially for recumbents.  I loved those jerseys, which is why I convinced them to pose in a row for the photo.  If anyone does a shirt-swap at the end, grab one of the Durtch shirts.

We got to talking, and they spotted my VC167 cap, and asked if I knew MSeries!  Apparently his fame has spread.  So if he encounters a bunch of Dutch riders asking why he doesn't have his phone to his ear as in his avatar, well, he'll only have himself to blame ;)

That's quite impressive, they found a jersey manufacturer who understands both upwrongs and recumbents.

... so, if we change from Owayo for the yacf jerseys, who did they use?
Actually, it is rocket science.

Terrific pics Deano.
I served the Dutch guys at Thorne & noted the jerseys.
It was very interesting giving the continental rider's bike a coat of looking at.They clearly have equipment available to them that we don't:often minor things like different brackets for lights.

Rogelli Sportswear would be the ones.

No relation!  When originally posted on the AUK forum the name given was Werner Wiethege, who I believe is an - apparently successful so far - rider on the event.  At least the conditions on the final kilometres seem less unfriendly, so that may be helpful.  Chapeau to all on the ride; I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it.
At the end of the day, when all's said and done, there's usually a lot more said than done.

Ha ha! I believe that's Abraham Cohen's bike. The freewheel seized a few miles out from Coxwold (Southbound) and he had to walk a few miles to the control. A handy member of the Moto Crew was dispatched to a bike shop for a replacement cassette. A couple of hours later Mr Cohen was back on the road. Hope he finished ok.

It is

That's not a disk wheel, it's a (cloth) flag.

We also used the moto crew at Esk. to get a derailleur for a Russian rider who also walked to the control (in the early hours)

Sadly, because of geography that took about 8 hours...he was still well in time though :)

A Japanese rider does have a solid disc rear wheel, and he must weight close-to-nothing.  Must be fun in a cross wind.

How did Toby manage to keep his garmin going for the whole length of LEL?
Did he have some on-board recharging system?
Would be interested to find out!

Well done to all who completed or helped with LEL - fantastic effort by all!

He changed the batteries when they ran out.

His extra few km were accrued when he was discussing alternative GPS routing paradigms with PaulD near Thorne and they rode off-route together ;D  Mine shows 1403km, but I can't remember where my extra 2km came from

You actually caused the earth to keep on "jumping forward" with the God like power you kept putting through your bottom bracket.
You crazy Zod like bastard... You actually wheel-spun the earth.  :o

He did. At Alston he stopped me and asked if I was MSeries. Then he said "where's your phone ?" and pointed out that my avatar and my twitter picture both show me on the phone.

At least it looks like Rick was walking wounded, and nothing too seriously damaged.
