Spotty oik and guitar-bothering prodigy Toby Lee at the Half Moon in exotic Putney.
He is coming in March to our venue as a guest of Ana Popovic.

Saw the announcement on the Book of Faces.  Ms Popovic is jolly good too, if you like that sort of thing obv.

Did they do It's Clichéd to be Cynical at Christmas?

Oddly enough for this time of year, no.  Someone at the Lyrics Project has posted a set list in the Gig Reviews section.

She is only doing 4 UK gigs, so should be interesting!

Looks like a gig I shall stay for the whole lot…

Last night, Godflesh at 229 London (Great Portland Street). Return journey turned into an epic after I missed the last train home, got home just after seven. Mr Broadrick and Mr Green (plus excellent support from Zetra) more than made up for it. Tonight's second show (not attending) is post-reformation stuff. Last night's: the old stuff. Bludgeontastic.

The Delgados.
It takes a special band/musician to hush any London venue, never mind something like Shepherds Bush Empire.
Or maybe I've just got older...

Maybe the demographic and the derivation of the band’s name gives The Delgados a disproportionate YACF following. Well worth the 18 year wait since the last tour.

Blindman percussion quartet as part of the Wintersound Festival put on by the Free Range arts charity in Canterbury. Jolly good they were too. I was playing with the Free Range Orchestra later in the evening. All good, weird fun.

There's no vibrations, but wait.

Lewes Psychedelic Festival last night. Where I saw Välvē, Mark Peters,
Oddfellows Casino, Memorials, Karma Sheen, Acid Klaus, and TVAM.

The first two were in a smaller room, that usually has one person and a modular / laptop. Mark Peters was good, but drums in there was a bit much so early on.

Oddfellows Casino was much more fun than the spoken word pieces that Spotify suggested in the week. Acid Klaus was probably my favourite of the night. Mark Peters also hit the buying a CD enjoyment level. I’ve enjoyed TVAM before, but they needed more energy than I had yesterday.

I went to see Cloudbusting. A tribute to Kate Bush. I saw Kate Bush in 1979, so it wasn't the same.

More recently An evening with Ocean Colour Scene's Simon and Oscar.

Here they are

Cranked up the Tardis and went back to 1973 in Chelmsford last night for Martin Turner.  Played the whole of Wishbone Ash's “Live Dates” album plus a few more tunes for good measure.

That's reminded me... a host of tribute bands in pretty much sold out gigs.

First up, The Smyths

and then The Illegal Eagles.

The latter made a point of saying how much they liked playing in a smaller, more intimate venue.

Tonight there's a Bowie one...

and then we are back to current bands, with Ana Popovic and Toby Lee

This Unit endorses both Ms Popovic and Master Lee.  Actually he’s just turned 18 so he’s probably a Mr now :P

Mississippi Macdonald last night.  Very much blues in the style of BB King, and he did a couple of BBK numbers, along with Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James and Lightning Hopkins, but also a lot of his own stuff too.  Good guitarist and a great blues voice too, the sort honed by a 40-a-day habit over about 50 years except I don't think he is 50 years old yet and I doubt that he smokes (no yellow fingers).  Apparently he developed a love of the blues from growing up in the swamplands of Bromley.

King King at the Electric Ballroom in naughty Camden.  If support bod Glenn Tilbrook hadn’t played for a hour my back might have made it to the end without my having to wander off to the back to find something to sit on chiz.  Band in fine form and they let Stevie Nimmo and Frankenstrat out to play lead on a few more songs than last time.  Now groaning on the sofa and wondering where I put the paracetamol.
