Title: Strictly Come Dancing
Post by: valkyrie on 10 October, 2009, 08:42:35 pm
How many people on this forum right now are only here because they're hiding from Strictly Come Dancing, a hideously dull programme which will dominate many livingrooms on Saturday nights from now until Christmas?

Me for 1 >:(

I have X Factor to contend with.  Made even worse (if that is possible!) due to the theme for this evening being Robbie Williams' songs  :-X

Not long now hopefully until the house extension is finished and I can sit being grumpy on my own in a room far removed from people who are happy.  ;D

I can tolerate and even enjoy to some extent, Strictly Come Dancing. Good food and wine are an essential accompaniment of course. I have to say though, that I have never watched it in the early stages before and some of the rubbish dancers are just embarrassing. It's just too long, an hour would be much more comfortable.

/edit

We have just got to the bit where they decide who is going through and I really should add that this is really tedious TV. I might have to open another bottle of red.

No, it's rock legends night. Poor Stacey who is very good had to sing a Coldplay song, which offended me greatly as they are a dull boring snoozefest, not rock legends. I predict John & Edward to go out tonight as everyone hates them and the crowd booed the minute their names were mentioned.

Mrs Nutty is a strictly fan.

This year I'm being less antisocial so watching it too*.

I was hoping that after strictlygate they'd take it off air, but as Ian Hislop said on Question Time the BBC are particularly proud of Strictly, and so this doesn't appear to be a likely happening.

* I did have to make an emergency supermarket trip during the coverage, and also cooked the evening meal.

I watched a television programme this week. It was the More4 play about Cameron & Johnson at Oxford, with some story about a pot plant being chucked through a restaurant window, Boris spending a night in the cells, and a hint that it was Cameron that threw the plant.

Other than that I'm struggling to think of the last time I watched the box. I've just had a demand for £142 for a licence. I certainly don't get value for money from it.

Eeek no. Pop twins can be divided into two categories.

Good pop twins - The Proclaimers

Bad pop twins - Bros, John & Edward

I wouldn't be surprised if they're our next year's Eurovision entry though.

mrs_o is a fan too, so I tend to "watch" it every now and then, albeit that comprising occasionally looking up from my book/laptop to catch some snippet or other.  Tonight's snippet made me wish for a program to be commissioned called "strictly come boxing" where the judge/participant roles for Clive Whassname-Doodah and Joe Calzaghe could be reversed (would probably be nice to have Bruno Whoosit on there as contestant too).  I think I was influenced by "prior art" from my youth where a comedian (or, just possibly a friend of mine, i don't rightly remember) suggested Pro-Celebrity boxing.

After "strictly", the televisual scheduling in the O household went downhill (yes that is possible  :o - mrs_o started flicking between X-Factor, Oliver Twist and Sex and the City, none of which would be my idea of a good night in).  I am therefore, antisocially  :-\,  off to bed with my Iain Banks book (Transitions) and a large malt. :D

I normally hate any celeb based reality type contest show, but for some reason like strictly.  Dunno why, perhaps it's because, unlike that jungle thing or BB, they actually have to achieve something (apart from JS) rather than just sit there venting their spleens at each other.
And I don't mind watching a bit of dancing now and then.

However, Brucey does make me cringe a bit (even more so than Jo(e)'s dancing).  Normally he's just crap, but his joke about Jo's marital woes wasn't very nice.

Is anyone here watching this year ? (Besides myself and Mrs C obviously !)  I've just phoned in our votes for Kara, Matt, Scott and Pamela.   This week I award the Sex on Legs Trophy to Aliona, the Charlie's Angels Cup to Tess, and the Car Crash TV Dented Hubcap to Ann.  In fact Ann's performance tonight was so bad she gets it for keeps.   Time for an exit !

Who or what is AW?

Ann Widdecombe.  At least her 90 seconds on the dance floor gives you a good opportunity to go and make a cup of tea and you can take advantage of the bits when they interview her to do something more interesting or engaging, such as cleaning out the cat litter tray.

I'm watching the result show now, and Duffy is singing.  There's a bit lit up DUFFY sign in the background, but when they cut to the low down camera angle, the dancers and Duffy obscure bits of the letters, and it looks like it says DUREX.

Juts thought I'd share that.

WHich is the question ....

Is this a dancing competition as it tries to be or entertainment for the baying masses.

The whole point (as I understand this) is that she remains in the competition by the votes of the public.. they are being entertained and want her there. She is abiding by all the rules and unless they are changed in a fit of pique or she is bullied out like Jon Sargent then she is there for keeps.

Same for the X factor....see off the judges by voting for the worst possible performer.

Excellent... Now what will they do if she wins?

Will we see the pretend facade of respectable competition lifted and the true colours revealed

She was on BBC Breakfast this morning, saying that it's a vote, and she is the one person on the programme who understands what democracy is. Subtext: the problem with democracy is that you give the masses a say in the result....

She also pointed out that it is entertainment, not a dance contest.  If it was a dance contest, then all the competitors would have to start out at a similar standard.

Good on her I say. She's opened herself up to criticism, and given as good as she's got, while actually remaining pretty modest and giving huge credit to Anton - she just said that if they won, he ought to get the trophy, and I think she really meant it.  And their routines are hilarious - partly down to his comic talent, it's true.

On another note, it is wrong to be developing a passion for Anton du Beke? I'm quite sure I'm not his type, so to speak.

I think the thing I like is that she's fully aware of her shortcomings and happy to play them up, and take the flack for them.  There are one or two of the others who I feel are taking it and themselves a tad too seriously.

Well, ok, it's mostly Patsy Kensit.  But maybe I just can't stand her over exagerrated reactions every week when she gets through.

Well, exactly, and it's not like any of them are hoping to get a life changing contract for a dance career out of it. I don't care either way, by the way, because I don't watch it. And I hate Anne Widdecombe.

I find her (and her performances) dull and somewhat irritating and I do sometimes wonder about the effect of making a politician whose views I find fairly offensive overall seem all cute and cuddly and 'the underdog' and all that tripe - she's getting a lot of media coverage, much of it reasonably sympathetic.

But in terms of the show I just don't pay much attention when she's performing and tend to wander off when she's being interviewed, in the same way as I have to not watch Bruce's links, because I find it very uncomfortable viewing.  All the flap and 'she should go' nonsense annoys me because it attributes a greater importance than is warranted to her and her continued participation.  I'd like her to be voted off, but not enough to pay for a vote for any of the others!

Yes, I felt like that watching Ann last week.  But it was much more fun this week.

I was giggling from the moment Anton sat up in the dry ice fog and yelled "Anne!"

I don't particularly like some of her views either, but she is now a retired politician, and out to have some fun (as she said on Breakfast). Everyone ought to have some fun.  I guess for me she's just the right side of bad to be funny.  Like Les Dawson on the piano - although of course to do that sort of bad, you have to actually be pretty good to start with, so it's a different sort of joke.

I find Brucie much more cringeworthy.  Last night he told a joke about one of the competitors (Pam?) saying she didn't want to get inside his head, because she was agrophobic.  Cue Audience laughing, because they've got it, instantly.  But he shushed them, and then delivered the 'punchline' - "because inside your head is such a wide empty space"....  And the audience had to try and laugh all over again.  An entertainer who still had it (did he ever, I've never liked him) would have just cut it short on the laugh.

Alas, I don't suppose he'll retire until the chap with the scythe comes for him, and perhaps neither Heaven or Hell are prepared to book him for eternity...

The whole Anne thing (previously John) is a classic case of the lunatics taking over the asylum. "Reality TV" became popular ten years or so ago and now their producers are reaping what they sowed.....

Having said that, generally on Strictly the best dancer wins. Same with I'm a celeb - usually the person who is best at just getting along with people and getting stuck in wins.

Strictly, IMO should be a dancing competition. Even if it is just one to entertain people. But if we're talking about something as futile as something like dancing (or indeed any type of competition) entertainment is all it ever is.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but Anne should just piss off and let those who actually have some ability be rewarded for what they have achieved in the show.....

Tbh, from the point of view of 'fariness' or the 'competition' I wouldn't give a monkey's if Anne won it - it's not like it matters, or makes a difference in the world, is it?  But it would be vaguely annoying IMO to have time in the final taken up with her inept meanderings and attitude when we could be watching something rather better.  It simply wasn't the same when they ended up with a two couple final and, since I pretty much ignore the 'contributions' of AW, if she stays in to the end it would effctively be a 2 couple final.

I presume that bobb would prefer any of the other couples to stay in the show rather that Anne and Anton, given his stated reasons for watching  ;D

Who gives a rat's arse about Ballroom Dancing?

If the public wanted to watch superb dancing they wouldn't allow celebs on there, they could just watch professionals doing it better.

It's entertainment (not for me I hasten to add) and I assume people like to see Widdecombe being dragged around like some camp, bewildered corpse.

I suppose that we're supposed to be appreciating the finer points of the dancer's artistry but I have to say that this evening's results show opening dance had me appreciating other things entirely.  Followed by Ola's rumba.  I'm reminded of one of Dr Pam's intro's on Not the Nine O'clock News - "And now we have some explicit pornography thinly disguised as choreography".  Not that I'm complaining

I must have a different kind of humour as I don't really find Anne's dancing that funny.

I think that the difference between her and JS is that although really crap, at least he did try to do it properly.  With her, she just says "not doing that, not doing that, not doing that, etc", then out on the floor she makes no effort to do properly the few bits of dancing that are left in the routine.

Does it reflect two kids of fans with in the general public?  Last year (and some other such as Goth) we had people voting for those that started crap but worked really hard to get better.  But with Anne's fans we have people voting for someone who is crap and is making no effort to improve.  Sad if the majority of the public identify with Anne's approach rather than Chris's.

Having said that, some of Anne's 'banter' with the judges at the end can be quite entertaining - and to give her her due, although I find her politics abhorrent, and her personality less than appealing, she's always been a good debater, and able to use her weapons well.

Disappointed about a few other aspects of the show too - Brucie is still there, and now they are allowing all of these props and gizmos, which, for me at least, don't bring much to the dancing, indeed, some of them just seem to get in the way.  And another thing - the dance off should be brought back - the Sunday show is just dull, dull, dull now.

Not that I've ever watched strictly or have any idea of who any of the celebs are, of course

I think you're putting too much thought into the voters' motives. It's not about who they identify with. It's partly about pissing the judges off and partly about recognising that the whole thing is utterly meaningless and doesn't matter. It's a two-fingers to the people who take it seriously.
Title: Re: Strictly Come Dancing

Indeed.  Or in my case, not voting for any of them and making a nice cuppa when the ones that I don't like are on.

However, none of them are leave-the-room bad now, so I don't care who gets into the final and will more than likely enjoy it, unless somebody manages a that-bloke-from-'stenders-that-danced-with-Flavia style muck up of a dance.  Or we get a choreography catastrophe along the lines of Erin-and-whatshisface and the dummies or indeed Brendan-and-the-tall-bird-doing-spider-impersonations in a showdance.

I find it interesting that I can't remember most of the 'slebs names from the earlier series!

See, I can't stand the ones where it's 'ordinary' people competing.  I look at them and can't help thinking that some of them actually believe that this is a real competition that means something and might result in a meaningful career, rather than thinly disguised ritual humiliation and exploitation of people's stupidity and hopes.  As a result I think I've only ever watched 2 episodes of the X-factor ever, and on both occasions it was when I was round at somebody else's house.  At least with the 'celebrity' versions you can hope that the majority of the participants are familiar enough with the machinations of the meeja to know what they're letting themselves in for....

But some of them do get successful music careers out of it. Will Young, Leona Lewis, Girls Aloud. Lots of the contestants have real talent, but you always get the deluded nutjobs too.

dross reality show

I beg your pardon ?  I think you meant to say 'high quality entertainment show'.
No, that's Britain's Got Talent.  ;D

But with Anne's fans we have people voting for someone who is crap and is making no effort to improve.  Sad if the majority of the public identify with Anne's approach rather than Chris's.

I think you're putting too much thought into the voters' motives. It's not about who they identify with. It's partly about pissing the judges off and partly about recognising that the whole thing is utterly meaningless and doesn't matter. It's a two-fingers to the people who take it seriously.

Yep, I am.  But it's my way of sticking two fingers up at people who are sticking two fingers up at the judges by voting for Anne, whom I abhor for non-dancing reasons.

I have to say that if Anne had won then I would have taken my hat off to Anton, as he would have earned it by taking someone who, let's not beat about the bush, just can't dance, and producing choreography that still managed to play to her strengths and encourage people to vote for her.

Any way, the witch is now dead and next week we are going to lose at least one of the the 'good' dancers and Bruno is going to go into rapture about what a travesty it is, and Len is going to tell the public that it is a dancing show, and Gavin's going to go back to pouting when Craig slags him , and Alecia is going to give everyone 10s even if they don't turn up.  So business as usual.

Widdy is a shocker!
I think she has a few screws loose upstairs.  Toe curlingly embarrassing to see a short fat eccentric elderly woman conniving in her own humiliation on national TV - under the impression that she is somehow 'winning something'. She thinks she is in on the joke but really she is the butt of the joke - she is an outsider in every way and I suspect a lonely and unhappy woman whose bearings came adrift some time ago when she began to see herself as a thing called widdy. More than a touch of Subo there.

A freak show to make the skin crawl.

I voted for her of course - if she is prepared to make an arse of herself then I am delighted to join in and if I can justify my behaviour under the guise of attacking trash TV even better.

But it's just a harmless, fun to be with light entertainment show.  I don't understand why it's attracting all this militant voting 'to prove a point'.  Save that for X Factor.

Whereas I really like it (apart from the bits where I have to leave the room or hide behind a cushion like 'Widdy' or Bruce) and it is, in fact, the ONLY tv programme I watch 'live' apart from CBeebies etc with boys - but would never dream of voting.

I love it.

Some of the dancing is superb and the I find the work that (some) of the celebs put into it is inspiring. Pamela Stevenson has been a joy to watch as has been Natalie who has clearly enjoyed her partnership with Scott  despite having (probably) danced with some of the best leads in the world.

Sure, it's not for everyone but then neither is autoerotic asphyxia. Still you don't have to try it to appreciate that some people really are into that sort of thing.

After last night's show my favourites for the final are Pamela, Kara and Scott.  But it's a close call between Scott and Matt.  Bruce seemed to be fluffing his lines particularly badly last night.  It pains me to say it but for me I think that the time has come for him to step aside.  I'm sure Matt would be good in the role.

I only caught the last 10 minutes (boo) as I've been out riding my bike (hurray) so will need to iplayer once it's available.  I think I'd prefer a Cara/Matt/Pamela final, but would be surprised if that's what we get.  Gavin's just nowhere near as good as the others and, although I'm not sure why, Scott just doesn't flick my bic.  However I think I can live with any combination of three out if the five, especially if they are going with previous years' format where they reprise their two favourite dances as I think they could all find one latin and one ballroom that would be OK - Gavin hasn't done any really decent latin but he no longer looks painfully uncomfortable bad at them, and his ballroom stuff is tolerably entertaining.  I'm not sure how the showdance would go for them though....

Kara was ace again

That Russian fucker is knobbing her morning noon and night. Bastard! But he seems nice, so I'll let him off.

Gavin is rubbish. Why is he still in it?

I would love it if Pamela could pull off some really athletic moves (she's older than my mum!) just to show those pesky kids.

Loved it  :)

Edit: I have nothing against the boys from Take That. But that was pretty shit really, wasn't it?

It has now got to the stage where I really enjoy it. Only Gavin is in danger of making us cringe and even he is passable so long as he is "in hold" as they say. Hark at me.

I agree with Bobb on Take That, I just don't get them. Very mediocre.

Kara should win it and Pamela should get the Ladies Veteran trophy.  ;D

Yes, I thought they were great. I've always thought Robbie was a great entertainer, and when I saw them all together again on Children in Need, I realised I like them now, when I wasn't bothered before.  It's my age, or something.

I know sod all about the dancing, I'd like Matt to win, because he's just lovely (and a great mover), or Pamela because she's doing such a great job for her age.

Take That are great. When they were a boyband they did great, catchy lightweight pop. Now they're a manband they do great, catchy, well-produced adult pop. And now that Robbie is back, it's even better. And their live shows are amazing.

A fair result.

There wasn't that much between Scott and Matt. Scott's jive was the best in this series so far but someone had to go. On the flip side, this couldn't have done his career any harm as he has shown himself to be pretty versatile and has reached a greater audience well beyond Worstenders.

I am pleased Gavin Henson has gone, not because of his attitude but because I found him painful to watch and the people in the final deserve to be there.

Have to feel sorry for Kara - to my uncultured eye she tends to dance better than Pam, yet at least one of the judges find some reason to knock the odd point off her.

And felt sorry for Matt on Friday - having to do the group dance right after his main dance, and what did the judges say was the distinguishing factor?  Stamina.

Right three in the final in my humble opinion.

Ooh looking good so far, I though that Pamela & James's show dance was a LOT better than the others. Like Tom Chambers when he did a mixture of different dances, but his was very comical too. It's going to be hard who will win this.
Title: Re: Strictly Come Dancing
Post by: CrinklyLion on 18 December, 2010, 08:34:01 pm
But if they're losing one person after 2 dances, why did they make them all learn/rehearse 4 dances?  That's just dim.  They should dance 3 times, then do the vote count (whilst the people who got kicked out do their bit and the finalists get changed for their last dance) and then announce who's the last two standing and the pair kicked out do their fourth dance as their 'farewell'.

I thought that Matt and Aliona's showdance was OK - I'm not that fussed about the acrobatics, but I thought they did it well and convincingly.  Would have strongly preferred Kara and Artem to do more dance, because that's what she's good at so why prat about doing backflips in a jumpsuit and over-reaching yourself such that it really obviously goes wrong.  Pamela's was alright - played to her strengths but felt a bit 'oh look, Dirty Dancing again' to me.

I shall be cross if we don't get to see their new dances.  Pamela in Argentine tango (which I really like), Matt's is a Paso, can anyone remember what Kara is meant to do?
Title: Re: Strictly Come Dancing

I thought Kara's show dance was the best even though she did cock it up in a couple places. Matt just stuck to the gymnastics 'cos that's what he's good at and Pamela just stuck to what she's good at. Boring!!

Kara had the balls to try an audacious routine and it could have easily ended in complete disaster. The fact that the judges scored her so highly on it shows they were impressed with her ability to do and try anything. And she looked hot  :P

See, a part of me agrees with Len that it seems a little odd to spend a quarter of the year learning ballroom/latin then finishing it off with a disco-esque boogy.  But then, I think I would have really liked Kara and Artem's AS as a showdance.  I also think she looked hotter (by a very very large margin) in the rhumba outfit than in the jumpsuit - bobb may disagree, of course!

So, for next year, I want them to get rid of Bruce, get rid of Bruno (he annoys me and talks too much).  Natalie and Katia either need to go or have a 'seen and not heard' clause inserted in their contracts - I don't mind them until they start talking.  Anton can help to present it, and Erin can be a judge or - if not - both of them should get proper really good could win it dance partners.  Erin has more than done her penance for stuffing it up with the puppet dance, and I don't think Anton has ever had a partner that was actually any good.  Darren and Lilia back (admit it bobb, it's not the same without a weekly dose of Lilia wearing 3 sequins and a bit of string and not a lot else).  Robin can stay if he wants to because he was atually quite engaging and seemed better than most in group dances, and Artem (but only if he gets paired up with one of the absolute no-hopers, because you shouldn't be allowed 2 of the pretty young likely to win things in a row) but that other new american teenager was a bit dull, so he can go.  I'd quite like to see the return of Ian Waite, and wouldn't hate Matt Cutler coming back.  Brendan can stay if and only if he has to teach the daft old bat contestant - I'm a  bit bored fo him being paired off with the leggy lovelies.  More Claudia 'mad as a box of frogs' W on the main show.  The 'Strictly Show Dancers' should either do all of the pro dances or get binned as they didn't add anything.  I think I approve of the fact that they got rid of the dance-off, but I think they should have had two dances to prepare from a bit earlier on as that's always the stage that sorts the sheep from the goats.  The 'swingathon' was pants, although I used to like the competitive VW when they did that - not sure why one worked and the other didn't.  And they should sort the final out properly, cos this one was a rubbish format.

Now I can turn the telly off (apart from the Christmas Special of course) until next Autumn :)
Title: Re: Strictly Come Dancing
Post by: CrinklyLion on 19 December, 2010, 02:57:41 pm
Oh - and all those guest artists who are too up themselves to share the stage with a pro dance should get stuffed.  If they can't deal with a pair of ballroom dancers (who, until a few years back were complete unknowns outside their very specialised field and who probably earn less for the entire season than the 'famous' singer does for that solitary taped 5 minutes performance) getting a bigger cheer than them then they should piss off over to the X factor.  And that includes you Ms Annie 'fill the entire sodding stage with candles' Lennox.

Come now, Crinkles, don't hold back, say what you mean....   ;)

I can't really comment on the pro dancers - I could only really pick Anton and perhaps Brendan out of a crowd... And having not been into it before this year, can't really compare formats.

I could do without Brucie though.  Someone put him down.

With my complete lack of dancing expertise, I'd still have liked to see Matt win, but that's as much due to my dislike of Kara as my like of Matt. At least the right people made the final.

So, what's the next Saturday blockbuster series?  Graham Norton presents 'Waiting for Godot', in which Andrew Lloyd Webber searches for a couple of up and coming stars to play tramps in a new musical based on Beckett....

I was sad to see Pamela leave. She was my favourite: consistent, very accurate, graceful (and a pleasure to listen to when interviewed unlike the other babblers).

Kara was evidently in pain in her last two dances after injuring her arm in the show dance, and it really made me wince to watch her. I think the Beeb must have introduced a new policy of no sympathy for injuries, as it was hardly mentioned. Overall, I'm quite happy that she won. Her Rumba was magical to watch.

Did anyone see Artem and James Jordan dancing the Rumba (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiX0bSspyQs), btw? It made me laugh.  Lots. ;D

As for the pro dancers, they really should choose those who can choreograph a good routine so the playing field is a little more even. Poor Matt did struggle with some terrible choreography (the gross lunging in that Salsa routine, for example?). I think the best choreographers of this series were James, Natalie, Artem and Anton.

I agree, Bruce needs to go. What a mess he made last night. I wouldn't mind seeing Matt Baker in that role. Or what about Billy Connolly?  :D

Artem and James doing the rumba was one of the funniest things to happen on Strictly this year. As was Miranda, Katy Brand and the mad as a bag of squirrels Claude.

Bruce has got to go. Its really funny, but in interviews he is extremely sharp, he has probably got one of the most driest sense of humours from an entertainer. But on the show its very wearying.

What I thought was absolutely unbelievable was not having Flavia and Vincent do their Argentine Tango. For me, its the best thing on Strictly and its utterly breathtaking to watch.

Great comments CL - and yes bring back Darren, Lilya, Matthew Cutler and Ian Waite. The new kids are OK.

See, I wasn't that fussed on Pamela's performance on the night, but that's probably because I found her VW deeply underwhelming and slightly irritatingly emotive, not emotional.  Danced really well, but I just would have liked it twice as much without the pratting about at the beginning and the end.  Whereas Kara did basically the only pro-celeb rhumba I've seen since Erin and Colin that I didn't find mildly embarassing at some point and Matt did possibly the only samba that I can remember being decent by a male celeb.  And none of the showdances were showstoppers.

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that the whole thing felt flat because of the format.  The 'new' dances sort of disappeared into the black hole that appeared in the programme when Pamela and James left without doing a farewell dance.  I can't see the improvement of four dances, with 2 not being performed by one couple, instead of the classic 'one really good latin, one really good ballroom, one something new as a filler (judge's choice, competitive VW) because we accidentally lost a competitor and needed to make you dance more to fill the time because there's only two finalists, and a showdance.  When they reprised one from each discipline it meant that they were refining and improving something that wasn't dreadful to start off with and had enough time to get the showdances looking properly good so even Julian Clary managed something not bad (although, and I know it's strictly sacrilege to say it out loud, I actually didn't like Darren Gough and Lilia's showdance all that much) - I'm discounting the first series as I've only seen it on Youtube!

At least this year they actually planned it such that they had a (unnecessary in the end) contingency plan to avoid a 2 couple final.  It'll be interesting to see what they change and what they keep for next year.

Btw, who else thinks that we should start a campaign for bobb as a competitor next year?  Partnered with Lilia, naturally  ;D

I'm sure Rod Stewart once said that he'll pack it all in when his hair won't stand up anymore. Having just seen him singing a terrible song on Strictly, with the worst hair in the world, I think the time has come.

Hair?  Is that what it is?  I don't care anyway.  Rod Stuart is still a leg end; he's considering a Faces reunion.

And...

I might watch this year's series; I like the Reverend Richard.

I am sort of watching because I like the Rev Richard, but two and a half hours of this? Seriously?

The secret is to watch on iPlayer at least an hour behind so you can skip the annoying fluff and just watch the dances and ppl who don't annoy you too much :)

As a Radio 4 fan and someone who grew up with 80s music, I'll be supporting Susan Calman and Rev Richard.

I get the feeling the Reverend is going to be the comic foil this series. Much as I have a problem with God botherers, he's a lot of fun  :)

Just been catching up on iPlayer. Joe and Dianne's street dance was the most entertaing dance since Mark and Karen's Salsa. They got a couple of tens, but come on! That was four tens within seconds!

I used to think that if I inexplicably became famous and got asked to do Strictly, I'd only do it if they brought back Lilia and I could partner her. Now I would only do it if I could partner Dianne. I've just gotta work on the getting famous bit  :P

I find it hard to capture my attention now, every since the focus was on entertainment rather than competition. My tenuous claim to fame though is that one of this year's celeb's father taught me how to play cricket at school many years ago.
