Kevin Mayne, CEO of the CTC, is to join the rampant European Cyclists’ Federation as director of development
Kevin Mayne, chief executive of CTC for 14 years, will be joining the Brussels-based European Cyclists’ Federation as director of development early next year. Among other responsibilities, Mayne’s role will be to expand the Cycling Industry Club which aims to pool together €1 million of funding for cycling advocacy.
The addition of Mayne to the ECF team comes at a time when the NGO has grown from seven to fourteen staff members in less than a year.
Bernhard Ensink, ECF’s secretary general, said: “We’re now ready to push cycling advocacy in Europe onto the next level.
“Kevin Mayne is the ideal candidate for the job, with experience in both the business world and cycling advocacy. He’s going to bring a lot to our organisation with his skills and experience in marketing and communications.”
Under Mayne’s direction CTC has grown membership to its highest ever levels, secured millions of pounds of funding for cycling and launched several strategic initiatives such as its national review of cycle training which helped lead to the creation of Bikeability. He was also instrumental in creating the Asda-sponsored Bike Club.
Mayne became CTC director after holding senior positions in blue chip food and packaging companies.
A statement from ECF said Mayne will “play a key role in bridging the gap between cycling advocacy and industry and will be steering ECF’s marketing and PR strategies as well as its overall development.”
Mayne will be joining ECF in the first quarter of 2012.
