Michael Gambon (1942-2023).

Rather a good actor.

Ah nuts. Yes, rather good indeed.

The BBC news website can think again though:

Best remembered for the Harry Potter films?  Bit of a disservice.

He was truly horrible in The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover.

I saw him on stage once in one of Beckett's plays.  If only I could remember which one.

Name dropping, I sat on a bar-stool next to him in the Beverly Wilshire hotel in LA (we'd been to visit the toilets featured in Pretty Woman, as suggested by the tour guide and stopped for an expensive cocktail)

I recall him in The Singing Detective, among other roles. As for HArry Potter, I think that acted as a decent prnsion for quite a few older actors.

Professor Larrington and Dr Davis are roffling about an interview in which he claimed that he used to be gay but gave it up “because it made my eyes water”.

Wonderful actor, sad he's gone.
