What's in a name?
« on: 04 February, 2010, 10:47:05 am »
Some people insist on being addressed by the full length of their name. eg a guy I know will always say "It's David" when I've said "Hi Dave!" Or another guy "It's not Steve, it's Stephen"

In a way I'm the same, but the other way around. I absolutely fucking hate being called Robert. Just call me Bob or Rob or any other of the variations you can get out of that name. It's just too formal.

So how do you like to be addressed? I know Clarion likes to be called Clazza for example....
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

Pat, only my mother calls me Patick (oh and Mrs Pcolbeck when she is cross with me).
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Roberto has started an interesting thread.

Occasionally, I meet people who don't know me as Clarion.  I know, hard to believe, isn't it?  I prefer to use my initials, because I don't feel that the given names belong to me.  I'm going to change my name so that, when asked 'what does that stand for' I can honestly answer that it doesn't stand for anything.
Getting there...

Well, some names seem to suit, don't they?

I can't think of Robertino by any other name.

Clarion - will always be clarion to me.

Calling RichForrest at the cycle rally was awkward, as I always have problems pronouncing the capitals.

I used to have a nasty old battleaxe for a neighbour who was named Phyllis.
She was always asking me to run errands for her, even though she hardly ever seemed
to be grateful for them.

I once called her Phyll, she went into a right old rage about it.

"How dare you contract my name, address me as Phyllis, etc, etc..."

Since then I called her Syphilis and she immediately stopped talking to me and asking for errands.

I generally advise people not to abbreviate my name because a smack in the kisser often offends.

How many different ways are there of spelling 'Chazza'? ;)

Chazza & Jazza* were in the region not so very long ago.

But if anyone can manage it, it's our Chazza!

Some people, however, quite like that sort of treatment  ::-)

Its not Gaz or Gazza, its Gary.

That is a note to the fucking estate agent who started off calling me Mr ....... and within a couple of minutes it was Gaz.  Cheeky fuckpig.

Actually, i'm not concerned to the point of being an arse - unless its a case of being over familiar (Mr Estate Agent).
