Hmmm, I yelled at a car for overtaking me along a narrow cars parked both sides road last night whilst I myself was overtaking a cyclist.

It's only after I was well off down the road that I realised it could have been misinterpreted as me yelling at the other cyclist  :-[ :-\ I hope the fellow didn't take it that way.

Sadly I was about 3 seconds too late with (and moving far too quickly for) "If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88mph, you're going to see some serious shit!"

Ooh, what's the best response to that?

"Not yet"
or
"I used to be"
or
"Future?  You have no future."

Heh.

Some time ago I was talking to a Small Child about the current rate of exchange offered by the tooth fairy. When she told me she got a pound for a tooth I was amazed.

"A pound? When I  was your age I got sixpence"

I'm not sure if this really counts as the oik in question was half of an amplified double act at the end of today's BHF ride to Southend, announcing the arrival of cyclists.

"And now we have a man with a 14-speed hub gear. Sir, we are not worthy!"

To which I replied "I know you're not!"

This afternoon on the streetmachine, passed two lads - one on bike, t'other on scooter.

"Oh man, that's *sick*"

I do believe they were being complementary. Either that, or they don't like orange.

Out in Welsh boondocks in the middle of the night between Llandiloes and Newtown (about midnight) we were hurtling along and yoofs leaned full out of their HiLux to give us some helmet advice. Couldn't tell if we were being told to put it on or take it off. As one of us was wearing one, and the other not, we were a bit uncertain who was deemed to have inappropriate headwear.
Whichever, it was pretty intimidating, we were doing 35kph and they were doing closer to 70 mph. It scared the living shit out of me, and I had to request a shaking stop.  :-\

Why is it that the ones who see fit to dispense unsolicited helmet advice always seem to try to make you fall off your bike in the process?

Because they are brain-dead bags of wank?

Their sole virtue is that they couldn't be turned into zombies, come the zombie apocalypse. Zombies try to eat brains and these morons don't have any.

I passed a group of four schoolgirls on their way home this afternoon.  I expected some kind of heckle, but it didn't come until I was most of the way past, when one yelled as loud as she could, presumably to put me off, make me wobble or whatever.  I've had this a few times recently, but it doesn't work.  And if you can't make me wobble right now, you're onto a loser. ;D
Getting there...

Back when I returned to cycling (my previous experience had been majoritarily off-road, where zombies weren't really an issue), and hadn't developed a fully-functional spidey sense about such things, just such a gorilla-noise attack did make me wobble.  Indeed, I countersteered into a drain, and then veered alarmingly close to an overtaking van in an attempt to correct it.  They looked far too pleased with themselves, fuckers.

I get this from the local school bus stop. I'm sometimes ready on the AirZound button, and just occasionally I get the blip in when they start to yell and get a bigger fright on them than they manage on me.

Couple of girls in a bus stop today came up with the ever so witty "Don't get a speeding ticket" as I (slowly) cycled past earlier. My only excuse is it was a nasty headwind.

My response was a half hearted sarcastic laugh which just got parroted back at me.

Of course I thought of several far more cutting replies once I was half a mile along the road

Cycling through Dulwich this week when a silver BMW beeps its horn behind me, overtakes, pulls in and the passenger shouts: "Are you talking shit, bruv?"

Not sure what to make of that. He looked angry so I didn't stop to talk.

Two exciting new ones today:

Firstly, a loud sneeze, projected from the passenger window of an overtaking car.  May have been a coincidence, my hayfever's pretty awful at the moment too.

Secondly: "Why don't you get a motorbike?"

I failed to think of a good retort.

I'm vaguely used to people expressing surprise that I don't and have never owned a motorbike.  It seems to be something that people think I might do.  I'm not entirely sure why.  I'd much rather have a LandRover (proper freeze-your-arse-off oil leak needs a bit of welding kind, not a wankpanzer).
