That's the one. Features as a descent on the Clawdd Offa.

Top ride all round. Only one really big climb (aforementioned haul out of Hay back across the Black Mountains) but pretty relentlessly lumpy for most of the rest aside from the flat bit out of Apperley. Coupled with the lanes and the wide variety of so called "road surfaces" means this is not a fast route.

Put it on your to-do list for next year. I'll maybe bring the tandem (just for the descent into Monmouth). Full marks to Steve for organising.

I missed this event as a consequence of riding another event the day before. This sounds like a great one for next year.

Can anyone give an outline of the route for curiosity ?

Hey phil D you firgot your crampon boy by yourside for part if the day! Thanks to you I paid £11.45 for two kit kats and 3 pints of orange and lemonade at Pandy! Bugged me all day that and with your stockbroker calculator mind I decided I had been stitched up must be my expensive Rollapaluza kit, carradice, map holder and steel bike! Great ride more points and now riding in club shorts only to keep my tan coming along!hope to ride again with you big boy!

(just for the descent into Monmouth).

That A road ascent and descent was an unexpected bonus.  I hadn't ridden that particular road before and the ability to take on a fairly graded climb and sweeping descent fair made this one smile.  It made me wonder why more rides that sneak into Wales don't take that road to Monmouth and then sweep back into Chepstow via Tintern.

Because it's much longer than going Mitcheldean-->Chepstow direct.

It works if you're going from Gloucestershire into Wales

It's  a horrendous road (for traffic) in the week - lots of big stone trucks and black currant lorries.

Ah, will have to keep that in mind.  Toying with the idea of a 600 to the Wales from Surrey/Sussex.

Tis a shame you felt ill, but thanks for stopping on to get the snaps.

That's the trouble with these forum names - spent most of the day with you without knowing you were RBB!  Thanks for your company - pushed me to ride much harder than I would have done if alone.

Phil d your welcome but remember it's your inner belief that allowed you to achieve the end result I was the mere conductor! Orchestrating the gear changes and change of pace I am so glad folk characterise us as audaxers now so here's to our next ride look me up when next in Westcountry way

I have had some great feedback for the 100 and 200 routes and that gives me the encouragement to run the Events next year.  What do you think??

Also, I have started a new Thread re- Pub food (do not know how to link it but easy to find!).
