Yep, planning to be out, just need a consensus on rest location  ;)
Maybe the Leather Bottle, or the other direction to the Wagon & Horses with a visit to the King Billy, no doubt NH will be built in to the route to any destination!

Back to Braintree?? [Waggon & Horses/King Billy?] I may be setting off later than usual, but can adjust my route there accordingly. Won't object to a shorter route as my legs are stilll recovering from an excess of HILLY WELSH SCENERY , courtesy of Saturday's 'Elenith' 300km!!

King Billy and Wagon&Horses via NH sounds good to me.

huggy: how early can you set off?  How long a route do you fancy?

I can set off any time u like, doing the usual WFH Wednesday  ;)
Thinking a 90ish minute ride to the King Billy sounds good before adjourning to the Wagon & Horses.

Tomsk, are you planning on both venues or just the one and what time should we aim to meet up with you?

A 6:30 departure from J&J, 8pm arrival at King Billy and 9pm at W&H is one plan, but open to other suggestions :)

p.s. it will be pre-birthday drinks!

Sounds like a plan.

I may be on the Felt for this one to give it a shakedown ahead of some Easter stupidity.

29.66 miles (2 NH ascents) @ 15.0mph

Ales:-

King Billy:-

Braintree Market (unknown brewer)
Pheasant (Dark Star)
Over the Moon (Dark Star)

W&H:-

??? (Mill Green, Edwardstone)
Hunter's gold (Red Fox)
Oscar Wilde (Mighty Oak)

Rode over with huggy with a couple of North hill ascents.  Met Tomsk at the W&H.  chief also turned up there later on.  It turned out that I had a message from chief while we were in the king billy but I only noticed it when he turned up at the W&H.

There was almost no beer at the King Billy - it was very busy so beer was frequently going off!!
In fact there were no bar snacks of any kind consumed there or at the Waggon & Horses  :o

In fact there were no bar snacks of any kind consumed there or at the Waggon & Horses  :o

[Assumes a kindly but firm voice, the sort that might have been adopted by an old fashioned school master]

"Now then gentlemen ...

[Pauses, begins to shout]

You boy at the back, yes you Oakden, pay attention, you might learn something!

[A well aimed board duster hits the hapless miscreant square on the forehead]

Now then, where was I? Ah yes.  I fear you gentlemen are missing a trick, we all know that public houses serve beer amongst other drinks, but they also sell food.  This food generally falls into two categories ...

[Writes "restaurant type meals" and "bar snacks" on the blackboard]

It is bar snacks that I would like to concentrate on.

[Points at "bar snacks" with cane.  The sight of the cane causes Oakden to flinch slightly, the bruise on his forehead is becoming quite noticeable]

Now then boys, a run-of-the-mill public house will normally just offer crisps and nuts, pork scratchings if you're lucky.  However, some public houses offer a much wider range of bar snacks, locally made pork pies and pickled eggs for example.  My advice to you is this: always carefully check what is on offer and most importantly try one of everything.  Hard won experience suggests this practise will add immeasurable richness to your public house experience.

Your homework for the next month is to seek out public houses that offer a wider range of bar snacks and compose an essay of no less than two pages in length describing your experiences.  And Oakden, I want an essay, not a spreadsheet."

Yes, Mr OD, Sir!
I will begin my homework immediately at the Square & Compasses but I'm afraid I'll have to work on the appendix of 'restaurant type meals' first with a proper pub meal accompanied by the future Mrs H who is taking me there for my birthday  ;D

I don't want any board rubbers thrown at me, sounds like you're too good a shot

We're finely honed athletes, we are.

We can't be stuffing our faces with pork pies and crisps at this point in the season, you know!

Next week me and The Current Mrs R will be home alone so I have informed the dearly beloved that we shall pedal Tina over to The Compasses at Liitely Green next Wednesday where upon I shall purchase her a modest dinner.

If the MEMWNS (have I got that right?) ride happened to drop by that would be splendid.

You're thinking far too far ahead, it's only Saturday - we don't even consider destinations until at least Tuesdays recently, but I'm sure The Compasses at Littley Green is a good shout!

That is if Liitely Green is not a different place

I'm up north this week so shan't be joining you.  It would be quite a long trip from here1.

Have fun!

See you around.

1.  290 miles in fact, by the eminently sane route chief and I will be attempting on Easter Monday/Tuesday ;).

Thanks for the offer OD. I'll be back from checking my 300km route [over 2 days-camping] on Wednesday, so may pop over to the 'Compasses', but I may be just a bit knackered and decide to stop pedaling for a bit! Also there's the small matter of an 'Arrow' on Friday. [But I have my domestiques organised to shepherd their grizzled captain across the windswept fenlands!]
