I tested the route earlier this year, and it is a delight.

As Hillbilly says most of the climbs are gradual. The section down to Bexhill was indeed the most choppy and relentless.

All in all its a thoroughly good day out, and manageable on fixed. I rode it on my usual 70" gear and got up everything; other than a final dark climb back over the north downs heading towards Bromley. A mental failure from me as much as physical.

I had contemplated this but am going to put off a AAA 300km until next year now after last weekends Around Weald Expedition proved a couple of things for me after this seasons first go at AAA rides

1: I have come along way since the AAAnfractuous ride last October and my climbing has improved a great deal.
2: The AWE was an absolute b****rd of a ride for me and not as enjoyable as say the Meridian Hills ride, so room for more improvement.

I hope the inaugural event goes well and if run again next year this will be on the calender when I have improved a bit more :-)

I'm in for this.  Really looking forward to a pre dawn exit from the big smoke.

I'll probably be really looking forward to the eventual return, too!

Is it a long way from the bike parking to the controls or something? ;)
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Looking forward to this immensely. I will be coming off from a weekend in the Alps this weekend coming so those hills shouldn't be a problem!  :o

Chapeau on completing that route on the worst day of the weekend!

And another chapeau - if it was anything like it was here in South West London, that was not a good day to be out on a bike!  From my own personal experiences of terrible weather on route checks, this means that the ride will be in good weather.  About time I got some payback!

I'd PM Ivan or Audax Club Hackney to ask, or email the organiser directly as per the address on the event page on Aukweb

There should also be some noticeable background music playing towards the finish as it's the first night of the On Blackheath festival and you'll be going right through the middle of it.  I think Elbow are headlining on Saturday evening (so you may want to hurry it up and make sure you're through before they go on).

The Sunday night act would be more appropriate, of course - Madness.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

I'm at On Blackheath on the Saturday night.   Rob jr's first festival, supposedly child friendly.

Annoying as the route comes virtually past my house on the way back and I was thinking about setting up a PBP style roadside stall.

The mighty 808 State are also at Blackheath this year, would be a joyous end to the ride!
