Subject to validation I have made it.

After an inconsistent season comprising of a couple of rides earlier in the year, and then riding round Iceland and the Pennines, I realised last week I was within touching distance of achieving 40 at 40 with one weekend to go. With long distance riding 500k somehow constitutes touching distance so this got me motivated to do something.

After work ride to the north Norfolk coast to bivvy down for a couple of hours under clear sky, stars and a glowing moon. Fantastic sunrise followed by a warm ride around the coast into a strong headwind for the remaining 300k. Lots of mixed surfaces thrown in along the way to make it interesting on 35mm tyres and 71".

Same here. I should have it with the Cheddar Gorgeous 300k on Sat and a Boat Trip Perm 200 yesterday.

Phew! Pat's email yesterday to say that the Cheddar Gorgeous 300km perm I rode a couple of weeks ago looks okay, means I've reached 40 points.

I only seem to be able to break the 40 point barrier in PBP/LEL years.
Will finish this year on 38.

I'm going to be 4 points short. Bah. Still a good year mind; completed my first SR plus a bonus 1000km ride.  :D

I'll finish up with 35 points after crashing out of a foreign 300 late last month and DNSing the Flatland 600 and other brevets this month. It'll be my lowest total for quite a while and I'm very likely to have a slow start to next season. Such is life.

This year's Bordeaux-Paris 600 UAF and PBP Audax brevets were fun, even if AUK don't think they are audax rides.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Well done, indeed!  Your modesty prevents you from saying that one of those events was the National 400 - but it doesn't prevent me!

Well done Tim. I failed on an attempt at the Cheddar Gorge (well out of time, much walking involved), but congrats on the 40 points. LEL next year?

Last w/e I made 66 and thought to do a 300 on Fri last to make it 69@69. But weather on the Gower suggested otherwise and Shirley and I ended up staying over and walking the Rhosilli Downs, so total stayed at 66. Tomorrow might see me opening my 70@70 campaign!

Nice surprise in today’s post. A collection of 40 Anniv medals including the sought after 40@40 (also SR Medal as I earn double UltraSR and Anniv Randonneur).

Still on target for 70@70 with 13 over the Oct/Nov Autumn months and a Dec ride already in the bank. These ‘Birthday+ -equalling’ targets sound like fun and certainly provide a solid reason for riding throughout the year; in retirement, the target is eased by having 7 days to choose from and it is easier to plan a weather window. But they are far from easy as the number climbs each year and at this age, fitness and health are more difficult to maintain and speed does reduce. Living in the South Midlands/North SW (?) provides decent weather, cf the more Northern climes

With the popularity of the 40@40 challenge, is there an argument to extend this theme for medals for 50@50, 60@60, 70@70,?80@80??

Big thanks to Allan Taylor for administering these medals

+1

I'm going for 71@71 this season.
In fact I've calculated that if I manage (minimally) 71 @ 71 through to 75 @ 75 that'll leave me just 28 points to mop up in year 76 and achieve the 100,000km thingy.
(GCSE math's question ~_  grade C: How many points did I start this season with?) :-\

I was also dead-chuffed and quite touched to receive an unexpected package (which is not like me) this morning.  My young son opened it on my bed and promptly announced "I'm having these birds Daddy" and then stashed them 'somewhere' in the house.  I have advised him that I'm starting to get 'not very happy' as I only saw a flash of red/green/yellow and (now desperately) want to put them next to my other LDC awards.

Many thanks to AUK for taking the time to commemorate our great sport and on such an individual level.

Easy.

Lots.
Besides, it wouldn't be audacious if success were guaranteed.

"and none will hear the postman's knock,
Without a quickening of the heart,
For who can bear to feel himself forgotten?"

I got mine, I showed my 4 year old daughter who seemed pleased, before she moved on to her Kinder Egg. She did ask "is it for cycling daddy?" so that was encouraging...

How are our plans going to achieve 40 points in Auk's 40th year?
I already have two points.

Sadly not me. Too idle.
