My boss is planning something similar; if everything goes to plan and we IPO in a year or so he's going to sell most of his equity in the company and build an all-women university in India (he is Indian, but lives in California). He cant see the point of keeping the money or giving it to his kids and wants to try and improve the lot of women in India where they're still normally expected to get married and run the home instead of going to university.
He's already in negotiation with the different states in India about how & where to do it. Sadly, the areas that need it most (the predominantly Muslim areas) dont want it, or have said that if he builds it they'll change it to a men-only / mixed place very quickly.
