Look what m'boy made :)
« on: 13 February, 2011, 09:50:25 am »
They've started doing some animation work at school - exploring patterns.  So he came home and made this...
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/HXHLp5j9SII&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/HXHLp5j9SII&rel=1</a>

Then he decided to do something with a story...
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/lEqrnWIcGsY&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/lEqrnWIcGsY&rel=1</a>

He has plans that include a workforce of a few classmates for the next one, which is sounding like an epic adventure.  And said classmates are all up for being slave labour - after we uploaded his videos to youtube, he embedded them on his homepage on the VLE and got to show them in class, which led to his class voting that he should get a 'headteacher's award' (it's normally teachers who decide if someone is getting one of them) for being inspirational.  He's just discovered, for probably the first time ever, that sometimes it's quite nice to be the cool kid.

Well done him!

As a kid I always envied those kids who got to play with movie cameras and get on Screen Test (anyone remeber that?).  Now I've got pretty much all the equipment I need to play with stop motion.  I should get him to give me some lessons...

If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car.

Great stuff

Lego is a fantastic medium for stop-motion animation, isn't it?  Wish I'd had access to a camera that could take single frames when I was a kid...

They are both excellent.

But what is "the VLE"?

Thanks, I am somewhat the wiser. But this sentence on that wikipedia entry surely doesn't mean what it says.
Quote
The extent of the economy over traditional "talk-and-chalk" teaching is not yet clear, but for instructors without web development expertise, using a VLE absorbs less time and produces a more professional result.
Surely that can't be actually comparing talk-and-chalk with a VLE and saying VLE is less time consuming for teachers with no web development expertise? What web development expertise is necessary to teach in a class with a board and books etc? Methinks there is either something missed out of that sentence or some underlying assumption which is not made clear, and I's confuseled.
