So - NI and England there, wonderful for NI!!

What about the other home nations and Ireland?

Looks like Scotland have a Munroe to climb.
It is simpler than it looks.

Umm, Scotland are dead and buried.

After a promising start, only one competitive win (against Gibraltar) in 2015 says it all, really. Particularly damaging was the 1-0 defeat away in Georgia.

Absolutely. It's been a while. [Mexico 86 I think..and the Euros goodness knows].
[I can still remember that Gerry Armstrong goal like it was yesterday.
I loved the older World Cups....when the world was still a big place of undiscovered countries!]

The Welsh have never been so close, they must do it this time, surely - Bellamy reckons it's as good a team as they've ever had. Team spirit and confidence is a powerful thing when you get a bit of momentum. I was reading what Chris Coleman was saying about Bale [who is useful:)]

"He has scored the majority of our goals but it is a collective thing, we have only conceded twice. It is not his fault he has the spotlight on him but we have a great group, great togetherness and he buys into all of that."

Worth a watch tomorrow.

So, what do people think is the upset of the qualifying rounds?
a) WALES HAVE QUALIFIED!?
b) England won all their games?
c) Greece (2004 champions) finishing behind the Faroe Islands?
d) No Dutch?
e) Something else?

(d) No Dutch (possibly combined with Iceland qualifying in their place).
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

Watching some of the England: Portgl warm-up.  Alves sent off for an impressively bad/dangerous tackle - Kane fortunate not to have his head kicked in.   :o

My boss was whinging today as he pulled out Spain in the works sweepstake.  I REALLY think that was not the bum draw he's claiming.  ::-)

Nearly messed up his hair, though.

Seriously, though, that was a shocking tackle attack. Totally unnecessary, and credit to Kane for getting back up and trying to play on rather than rolling around on the floor. I hope they do something further with Alves after the game.

Apparently there is a possibility that action can be taken, even though it is a friendly.

Wish I got Spain. I can't see my draw (Sweden) lifting the trophy

With apologies to England fans but I thought that was awful.

I'm not sure Hodgson knows what he's doing yet, what team or formation he's going to play. It does not bode well. Use the next 3 matches to decide and hope you get through the group stage - is that the plan?

It was poor. Looks like we will get out the group stages and then crash at the first knockout stage.

Yup. That didn't exactly inspire confidence, especially so given that the starting 11 was about as good as it's meant to get.

Rooney looked like he was splitting Kane and Vardy apart.

Hmmmm.

To cheer myself up I watched the Shearer retrospective of Euro '96. I was at all of England's games for that bar one. Happy memories.

Pffft... Talk about  going with the safe prediction!

I think England will be unconvincing in the group stage, but will get through. They will then have a run where they get a shit team/get lucky/actually play well. They will be involved in a penalty shoot out in either the quaters or the semis. They will actually win the shoot out! They will then go on to the final and be surprise winners.

There. That's my prediction  :P
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!
