The Boys From Brazil on ITVX.  Laurence Olivier, Gregory Peck, and the Dobermans.

Last night, the wonderful Galaxy Quest for the nth time. Was a bit short so we followed it up with Chicken Run to get a bit of culture.

Catching up...

The Rider
Cast mostly playing real-life selves as rodeo riders and surrounding families/community.

Powwow Highway
Road comedy. Cheyenne bros seeking justice for their friend in a beat- up car. Dated - actually quite funny.

Past Lives
Really good in spite of the hullabaloo

Saltburn
Brideshead re-revisited? (Richard E. Grant's hair!!)

Mammal
Barry Keoghan's really good in this too

Alien.  Vastly overrated.  Too dark and confusing, indistinct dialogue in places, and the android bit is absolutely hilarious if you've seen The World's End first.  I liked the cat.

First film I saw in the US, that, on the box in the hotel at ~3 am because jet-lag. Quite enjoyed it.  I'd have got out PDQ and left the bloody cat behind.

Whiplash (Netflix). About a jazz drummer trying to make it and a bastard band leader. Really enjoyed it.

Good film. In my mind I associate it with 'Birdman', which came out around the same time; a very different film, but with a great jazz drumming soundtrack by Pat Metheny's drummer Antonio Sánchez.

The Dead, on Prime.  Digitized from a poor print with poor definition and blown highlights, but as grand as ever.

Part of the music in the background of Gabriel's soliloquy at the end is Silent O'Moyle, which my big sister used to torture to death when she was learning the fiddle. It's still a good tune. She gave up the fiddle.

Still one of my favourites. And Aliens 2 is awesome on its own terms, and possibly heretically, better.  A rate case of sequels exceeding their prequels. Terminator 2, also. Sadly, both franchises should have called it a day thereafter.

World's End is also very good and I've been a bit scared of pub bogs ever since. I mostly pop out and do it in the car park, just in case.

Poor Things  Greatly entertaining. The humour outweighs the cod philosophy/sociology and it's visually delicious.

Probably too much sex to make it an Oscar contender sadly.  The soundtrack is vastly superior to Oppenheimer (which I found intrusive and actually oppressive).

Very much want to see this but haven’t found the time yet.

Interesting about the soundtrack. We saw his last one, The Favourite, in the cinema and one of my overriding memories of it is how deafeningly loud and intrusive the music was. It was a great film despite that though.

I watched Marry My Dead Body, a Taiwanese film (with English dubbing), last night.  A gentle comedy, which I would recommend.

White Noise on that Netflux, featuring a fat Adam Driver and a frizzy Greta Gerwig. Bloody brilliant.

Edmond, an imagination of how Edmond Rostand came to write Cyrano de Bergerac.  Excellent, with some lovely gags: "Et à la fin de l'envoi je... louche?"
