Etrex 30 - faster SD card worth it?
« on: 06 April, 2020, 03:37:58 pm »
I'm playing with an old Etrex 30. It feels slow - is using a faster micro-SD card of any benefit when scrolling/updating maps?

TIA,

Nahh, it's the power-optimised CPU that makes scrolling slow.  I vaguely recall that the USB interface is limited to USB 1 speeds, too; if you're transferring map data to/from the card it will go a lot quicker if you remove the card and put it in a reader.

Even with a really slow one, the card isn't really the bottleneck.

Currently struggling with putting .gpx files on the device or SD card. Surely I should be able to simply copy them to the GPX folder (on either drive) and have them show up under Tracks on the GPS?!

Yes, that should work.

Found the problem - the latest .gpx files from dwgwalking for the Brecons have waypoints only but no track points. I have an older copy of their files from 2016 which do have a full set of trackpoint elements.
