I never got the hang of cherries and bier but then I am an engelsman.

Had a Girardin Kriek at the weekend, which was a lot more accessible than the Cantillon. One for the palate unaccustomed to hardcore Kriek, perhaps, but not as interesting as the  Cantillon. Also a Girardin Gueuze, which was just magnificent - in many ways more like champagne than beer.

Now drinking De Molen Amerikaans - a Belgian version of an American-style IPA. Bloody marvellous. Full of hops but much better balanced than some American beers I've tried.

A massive full bodied barossa shiraz wth a ribeye all courtesy of M&S.

ps - not right now, but worth a mention from Sunday

(i) the German rauchbier (smoke beer) in bottle from the Bow Bar Edinburgh.  I had an 18 yo Ardbeg Islay malt with it and other customers had to cut a hole in the reek.  Kippers and chewing tobbaco.

(ii) the tap offerings at the new(ish) Brewdog pub in the Cowgate.  Sadly not real ale but still good.

Reasons to be cheerful.

That reminds me, we brought back some Cantillon Kriek last year that I haven't tried yet. I wasn't that keen the first time I had it, but that was a long time ago and my sweet tooth has shrunk quite a bit since then. That begs the question of whether I should buy more when we come past Zeebrugge in a fortnight or not......

Deanston Virgin Oak - a lovely smooth dram, un-chill filtered at 46%. Slightly sweet and not a hint of vanilla.

Bas Armagnac.  I took a punt on a bottle in the supermarket the other day, and it's excellent :)

Glenmorangie.

I've dipped my toe into whisk(e)y drinking before, and never really got the taste for it. Some have been okay, some terrible, and now and again interesting, but not worth really pursuing.

But this stuff is very drinkable.

Very.

Drinkable.
