Mikkeller Spontankriek.
Or at least what didn't escape all over the kitchen floor in an overly frisky manner.

It could do with less frisk and more soor  cherries.

Gull beer. Would be quite pleasant if it wasn't so chuffin expensive in its country of origin.

Where am I?

Timothy Taylor's Landlord. I could do with a slightly larger pint to be honest.

I think I know what you mean. Another 1/4 or so would be just the ticket.

But tolerable posting, nonetheless.

Perhaps:

"Red wine; a merlot. And now I'm not entirely sober. "

But 9/10 for inebriated comms.

All the beers you are scoffing sound excellent.... except I don't get your choice of lambics. Timmermans and Lindemans?
(Sorry, I'm a lambic snob) :P

Just trying stuff I haven't before. Cantillion and Duchesse de Bourgogne are the extent of my experience so far. I guess I should try 3F's stuff (I've seen it on the shelf). Any other stuff I should look out?

TBH, there's no rhyme or reason behind my choices - actually, scratch that. I'm not really choosing. It's whatever I see at the bar.

BTW, I ride past Beer-ritz every other day. I suspect them being around may explain some of the availability locally. If there's something on their list I really should try, do let me know.

Rodenbach Grand Cru has to be tried. It's a Belgian red beer aged in oak and blended with a bit of lambic to give it a slightly sour edge  :P £3.05 a bottle seems a bit steep, though.

On my desk right now: a 750ml bidon of water and a can of Dr Pepper Zero. I know, I know, but it gets me through the day :)

G. Schneider & Sohn Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock (12%)

I could happily give up eating and live off beer like this.

Kernel Table Beer 2.8%

Delicious.

I'm enjoying reading about this obscure beer competition between you and the Pingus, but sometimes I do wonder if you're making the names of some of them up, just for shits 'n' giggles!

It does remind me of a meal in a Belgian Restaurant in Stockholm. No wine list, but they did have a beer menu, with recommendations for every dish. They turned their noses up with the selection of Belgian beers I requested (Palm, Jupiler, and Duvel). Lots of monastery brews with exotic sounding names.

The food was entirely unmemorable though

heh - I have no expertise, I just frequent a few pubs that are particularly geeky about beer and chat to their very geeky bar staff.

The eisbock was phenomenal.  You can get it in bottles, but this was on draft.

I would never ever turn my nose up at Duvel. In fact, give me a 4 pack of No1 barley wine and that's me set for the evening.

I regret to say I rather enjoyed the Greene King Gold IPA I had the other day. In mitigation it was only £1 a bottle at Sainsburys.

I don't drink much green tea, so couldn't really say I went in to it knowing what I was meant to be looking for. It was more "ooh a 10% stout!" and the giddy "it's so lovely, I'm going to walk to work tomorrow so I can have a few" comment from the bar person that made the i-don't-really-want-to-admit-it price a non-factor. I've never paid more for a half, or if I have, it was ~13% and someone had bought me one already so I wasn't counting the pennies.

I think if you didn't know it was a green tea stout, I would suggest an average punter would say "ooh, that's a nice imperial stout. Interesting aftertaste. What is th... ooh another sip. Yum yum".

The bar staff were pretty much freaking out about having it on, but I'm not a discerning punter when it comes to higher abv stouts. They are by definition teh awesome.

A holiday memento - Tunisian Eau de Vie made from figs. You know what? At £7/litre it's not half bad!
Lovely aroma, a little harsh initially in the mouth, but a nice long fininsh and a bit warming too.
