That is a first. Never heard about someone drinking my home town drink without rollmops or karrysild. But good to see that someone like the "water of life" aka the Akvavit. If you can get hold of the Christmas edition or any specials much better.

Woolly, do they still sell Nordsjøøl or whatever it's called? That really dark, thick drink. Rather nice, I thought.

Do you mean Nordsø Olie? A bitter like Gammel Dansk? I haven't had that horrid stuff for years :)  A quick search it looks like it is no longer in production. An alternative drink is Westerhavs olie, equally horrid.

It was a big thing to drink on a night out when I was young just before Tequila and Sambuco became the thing to drink to get rat arsed.

Woolly, I remember it being sweeter than the awful Gammel Dansk. I say awful, as I had an embarrassing episode on a sleeper to Sweden following excessive intake of GD. Unicum is the Hungarian equivalent.

I don't mind getting drunk and is know to knock a few beer down. But I never got why my friends loved the idea of throwing down a few (read many) shots in a session. It is really the worse it taste the "better", the taste just lingers and ruin the rest of the night. The idea of a Jagerbomb, I would rather go for jab in the eye with a sharp covered in chilli thing, than endure redbull with anything.

Unicum is the Hungarian equivalent.

I've still got a bottle of that, 12 years on.  It's one of those three-quarters full, very dusty bottles at the back of the cupboard...

Is it in the anarchist-bomb-style bottle? Don't let the contents near your bike paintwork. Revolting stuff that sort of suits the Magyars very well. Bitter.

God indeed works in mysterious ways.

In other news, Unicum, it's an experience. There's a spit-or-swallow joke in there somewhere, but I'm far too couth to make it. Nice bottle.

I'm getting over Portuguese beer. It's not very good.

The family Tiermat visited a tapas place on Saturday.  The food was very very good, and loads of it.  The beer choice, however consisted of relabelled Heineken in all it's forms available on the Iberian peninsular (Estrella Galicia, Cruz Campo and St Michael*). No Estrella Damm! I had to settle for Mahou as the others are just too horrible to contemplate.

Just finished a whole jug of filter coffee made from Illy beans. Had a T-Bone and far too much Amstell in the pub last night and the coffee has made me feel just about human again. Now to sort out the mess that is my garage.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

some sipping ale, courtesy of Mark for the samples.

41% abv, freeze distilled
smells like an IPA, tastes nothing like, but quite good so long as you approach from the direction of an unusual whisky rather than a beer (not that it's really like a whisky either).
Wickwar Station Porter to wash it down with.

Second can of Brewdog Punk IPA. Popped in to Majestic yesterday to refill the wine stocks and it was £3.20 for 6 cans with a short date. There are only 3 left!

Red Hunter - a rather nice beer from across the county line, brewed to commemorate one of the many times a BRITON broke the world airspeed record.

A bottle of Black Sheep Brewery All Creatures. It's very nice and even tastier given it is only my 3rd beer since the van headbutt incident at the end of May!
