Oh Fuzzy, San Miguel is, only just, allowable but honestly, how can you admit to drinking the pish that is Cruz Campo? It used to be almost OK, then Heineken bought the company and turned the beer into a poor imitation of the stuff they brew elsewhere. It does have one, and only one redeeming feature, that being that it isn't Estrella Galicia.

As any fule knows, the one true Iberian beer is Estrella Damm.

As pish beers go, Cruz Campo is far from bad. Plus it has contributed to some fond (though very hazy) memories.

Finished off with Baz's Bonce Blower (12%) at the Roundhouse in Derby, and got back to Tewkesbury to find that the White Bear had Green Jack Baltic Trader (10.5%) on hand pump. It seemed rude not to try it.

My wife bought me some Strathearn Heather Rose Gin for Valentine. I've been too ill to try it. It's sitting in the kitchen. I am ian's pernicious resistance.

London Gin Festival this weekend and instead of training my liver I'm drinking elderflower tonic water. The shame, the shame.

Kangaroo Ale from the Red Brewery, a local out Huntingdon way.

Nicely hoppy, bitter, tart fruitiness, slightly on the sweet side for me, but nice to have tried it.

Far too much.

After years of 6 units a week max, this week has been daily feasting courtesy of Morrison's well-stacked seafood counter and a large choice of cookery books. All washed down with a mixture of Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé, as well as some really nice Pinot Grigio that I think Adamski and Pippa gave me when they turned up on my doorstep with two huge Turbot on their valedictory tour of mates.

Had to restock as a result of this, and am currently tucking into some Passimento Pasqua from Majestic.

A Humpty Dumpty Brewery Porter,

Nice and rich and a goood fruitiness, slightly on the tart side, nice roast coffee-ish flavours. I normally prefer a bit more body in a porter but I could drink this again.

The gin festival proved to be a bad move. You've no idea how many bottles I have to buy now. Ironically, given a world of gin, my favourite turned out to be from Surrey (Silent Pool).

Going to Craft Beer Rising hasn't helped my bank balance (or liver) either.

Tonight one has been a-slurping of OSB Absent, Brass Castle Bad Kitty, and Dark Ruby mild.
I hereby nominate the White Bear for POTY 2016. Given that the pub of the year for both 2015 and 2014 are fairly local, I think I've got a basis for judgement.

Visited my Mum on Sunday. Left her house with an unopened bottle of mead that was lurking in her cabinet. Apparently the brand has been out of production for 25 years or so.

Shall give it a try tonight (for scientific research purposes of course).

Oh God, the gin festival. I went to the Guildford one. I felt like such an oik for the first hour but I soon warmed up.

At the end my better half had to take away my credit card. Me + All the gin + delivery + credit card. No.

The Silent Pool one was a good 'un. I can't decide whether I preferred the gins with an exaggerated focus on a particular botanical or those with a more refined balanced character. I must admit my favourite gin was the one where after the tasting session there were quite a few samples left over. But I don't remember which one that was.

I'm really an Islay malt man, favouring lethal levels of iodine, but wallet won't stretch to that extravagance.

My wife just came home and declared this evening to be an honorary weekend. No school night restraint. Even better, she's lugged a big bag of assorted gin from Munich duty-free. It's what Jesus and the Easter bunny would have wanted.
