Have had my apertif, Pineau des Charentes. Then some water. Probably should have some moar water before dinner comes and we get on the wine...

This last 4 days has seen me try some of the best craft beers in Denver, none of which I can remember, but all of which I like! One was even had as breakfast after a bike ride!

Continuing the theme, last night was a tour of four breweries, those being :

The Great Divide
Denver Brewing Company
Black Shirt Brewery
Urmmmm...

The best beer was had at Black Shirt, although the Oak Aged Yeti at Great Divide was very very nice.

Think I may need a new liver when I get back!

Barrel Aged Yeti is fab. Up there with Pirate Noir (imperials stout aged in Jamaican rum casks) for scrummy barrel-aged prime booziness.

If you can get it Hitachino Nest XH. I had to go to Japan for that one. Now I have to go back for another.

I'm trying to remember what the barrel-aged barley wine I had the other week was, but for obvious reasons my recall is a bit hazy.

I had a Hitachino Nest the other week, very nice. Some very good beers in stockholm last week, but can't remember which.

The XH is good - it's aged in shochu barrels which gives it a fairly unique taste. Never seen it in the UK. We got it in some little bar hiding under the Tokyo expressway in Shinbashi. Can't remember the name of the bar, though for some obscure reason that a mash-up of broken Japanese and English couldn't resolve, the bar had a nautical theme and a considerable quantity of potato salad.

In that order. Spot the problem? Yes the Cannonball is like a hoppy baseball bat to the mouth which affected the taste of all the others

Home made,hand crafted Sloe gin, which has been developing over the last 12 months and has just been bottled tonight.Needed the sweetie jar for this year's batch.

Sloes are a lot poorer crop than last year. There must have been a frost at just the wrong time in Yorkshire.
Are sloes more bountiful elsewhere?

Pingu, I don't know how old you are but up until the 1970's ,sweets were stored in big glass jars and the shopkeeper weighed out what you wanted.
I have one of those glass jars with a screw top lid and it will hold a couple of pounds of sloes,a pound of sugar and a litre of gin, with enough space (ullage is the technical term ) to allow agitating the contents .
The large diameter neck on the jar makes it easy to get the sloes in and out.
