Right now , it's a large glass of Vina Maipo Gran Reserva Shiraz from Sainsbury's , can't grumble at £4.49.

Cheap industrial French plonk, to wash down seriously garlicky stuff. No one complained, as I put it in old decanters. They looked very pretty, all frosted with condensation.

Lesson: set the table with a big white cloth, and fill random old cheap decanters and carafes with basic but decent white wine, well chilled. The added plus, it made sure that everyone had enough wine, without the bother of hovering to top up.

Pinot Grigio. I don't often drink white wine, but I had to open the bottle because I was making French onion soup, and well, it wouldn't do to let the rest go to waste, would it? It's quite nice, despite my blocked nose and depleted sense of taste.

I've put myself on a 'one night a week' regime for alcohol. Have to say that I'm sleeping better, feel more alert, and am losing a bit of weight with no other associated effort.

Sunday is our Burns Night supper so I'll be having a wee dram then.

Nothing, having just come back from the pub where two pints of Bishop's Finger went down very nicely thank you. I suspect the bottle of red that is warming on the radiator will be open soon. Do I have to post again or can I log the fact that I will be drinking it now?
