A bottle of Shepherd Neame Spitfire. When did this stop being a naturally conditioned bottled ale? It's pasteurised now. Not unpleasant, but a decided retrograde step.

Finishing off the bottle of Isle Negra Red I opened on Saturday night. I'm breaking my no drinking during the week rule. Cant bear to chuck it away.

Eh? As far as I know, 1698 is the only Sheps beer ever to have been available as a BCA.

But I could be wrong.

Ewwwh. I picked up a Baileys from the free selection after the 'big dinner' - it was either that or Drambuie (yuk) or cognac, and I didn't think I'd like the cognac. I didn't finish it, it was too sweet. I am officially getting old.

Tonight I am drinking some McGuigan's red wine. I don't know what variety cos Pingu didn't read the label.

I'm sure Spitfire used to be bottle conditioned. There were bits of yeast floating around in the bottles and IIRC it said "bottle conditioned" on the label.

I'm drinking Spitfire atm actually: I was on duty at Maidstone Girls' Grammar School Medieval Fayre yesterday, and my daughter over-ordered the beer by an order of magnitude. At the end of the evening I was filling former mineral water bottles for staff members to take away. I must have the best part of a gallon of Spitfire here.

I've never seen it, which is clearly not the same as "it never existed", so I'm sure you're right.

Thinking about it, I've not had a pint of Sheps for a while, which is an oversight on my part. There's a pub on my route home from the station that sells Kent Best, but I've not been in there for ages - been far too good at resisting the temptation. More fool me. Must do something about it.
