Not drinking tonight as I went out last night. Had a guiness and port for the first time in ages last night. Lovely drink.

I know it's not a posh/'good' whisky but I bought a bottle (on offer) recently as I've only liked whisky the past couple years (my Dad having introduced me to Bushmills 10yr Old) and thought I'd revisit JD having only had it with coke or as hastily downed shots when younger.

JD is OK. American Whiskey is a completely different drink to Scotch though. Irish is different too but a close relation. I prefer Irish to Scotch these days ( I know I'm a philistine). I'd rather have a decent port or brandy though.

When it comes to the American stuff, I prefer Kentucky straight bourbons such as Jim Beam or Four Roses to standard JD which is actually a Tennessee Whiskey due to the charcoal filtration process used before maturation. That said, I do like the single barrel and Silver Select editions of Jack Daniels, which tend to be smoother than the bog-standard stuff.

Last night: Rather a lot of free wine.

Free because we made a beer-fuelled fuss when the crap christmas decorations in the restaurant fell on my dining partners head, coating him in glitter. The third bottle was a triumph of hope over reality.

It wasn't as smooth as I remembered it when I'd had it in a pub.
In fact, it was so different that I checked whether I'd got the standard and not some with a different "finish".

I'm still enjoying it although I don't think that I'll be buying another bottle for a long time.
