Sainsbury's own brand Czech lager. Sad to say, but not a patch on Tescos' equivalent. There's not enough of anything in the taste and it's just bland.

A far cry from the Budvar and Urquell I treated myself to over the Solstice break.

Now, Sainsbury's (brewed by Shepherd Neame) Porter is another matter and that's rather good.

I went to five pubs in Chipping Camden last night and, aside from a decent pint of Westons Perry, all of the beers I had were at best passable, at worst rancid. It is not the entertainment hub of the Cotswolds, I can report.

Oh, and I got a bottle of De Kuypers cherry brandy and manzanilla for me burfday. That would make an interesting blend...

Soberano - Spanish brandy, great name.  ;D  Raisin & vanilla flavours to the fore.

Since my father died last year, my mother worries about all sorts of things, including having a kitchen cupboard full of drink, and insisted I take it all away (oh, alright). I think this one (and a couple of single malts) would have been presents to him which he didn't get around to.

So, here's to Dumb & Mad.        Cheers!

And due to tonight's taxi service for teenagers, it's water or rooibos.

Until I get back...

On Weds, in the BrewDog pub, we got a free sample (the end of the keg they couldn't get rid of by the looks of it) of Tokyo*, 18.2%, about 50ml between us. That was a) plenty but b) surprisingly good. But you had to hold it in your mouth, let it warm up & the flavour develop & then it was like drinking nice port. It didn't make us inclined to try the 30%+ stuff though, that was way strong enough.

Tonight, just finished a G&T & wondering what Pingu will make next...

A nice change from whisky.

I would have thought that the main reason for not trying the 30%+ stuff would be the £35 - £40 per bottle cost.
I tried some 16% stuff at a beer festival once (ended up with about 3/4 pint because the barrel was a bit lively). That was surprisingly pleasant too, provided you took your time. I'd expected something a lot more treacley.

You can by the stronger stuff by the nip in the pub, so it's a bit less of an outlay.....still too strong though.
