Looks like a common/smooth newt to me.  It's not a Palmate or (I think) a crested

Thanks - my guess was a common newt.  Quite exciting really, we have loads of frogs, but this is the first newt seen.  We haven't seen much frog spawn this year, I wonder if newts feed on it.

Cool. Our pond puddle is stuffed full of them.

We once exported a jam-jar full of them to my Sisters pond. Probably a highly frowned on practice, but now her pond is stuffed full of newts too.

We've got them in our (I suspect soon to be ex ) wildlife pond.  And toads.

They vanished for a few years; we had loads once, and then I used to find them in the soakaways and in the long grass when I was trying to cut it.  Not good.  This is the first time I've seen them in the pond in any number (but see my pics elsewhere on here on the zillions of froggies we had this year)

We find them hiding in cracks in the dry stone wall of our garden. We don't have a pond (yet) but next door does.
