Something seems to have killed the parsnips

The leaves have withered = quite recently. Very annoying. Never come across this before. Any ideas?

Thought that they were meant to start withering around about now? At least I think that mine did last year and they've started to go a bit brown this year.

Last year I was pulling up big bosters long after the greenery was totally gone - put sticks in the ground to mark where they are before you lose them!

I was going to suggest a change in the weather.

We have started using our parsnips. This year I tried germinating seed from the previous year's crop in the greenhouse, and transplanting them outside when they were big enough to handle.  Virtually all the plants survived, but so far, 2 out of 5 have had twisted, split roots.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...
