I'm on 652 points & hope to carry on for a 1000, my problem is my knees, hands & lower back are giving me problems because of a lifetime of competitive cycling. I got my 1st bike in 1963 & started proper cycling in 1968 aged 11, my 1st race was in 1971 & my last in 2013 the week after completing L.E.L., 865 races & Ultra Randonneur have certainly taken their toll yet I'm still keen & interested in cycling, my plan is to keep RRtY going as long as possible & keep the point up, we'll see.
At 2 points a month, only 14 years and 6 months to go, reaching the target at age 78??

If I want to get there by 60 I would need 3.5 points a month for 19.5 years

The culprit is more likely to be the non-competitive long distance cycling... as much as we all love it, it's detrimental for joints & Co.

As animals, we were designed to run fast for a few seconds/minutes, but we were never designed to run marathons...

It's a nice idea but human beings are actually built for endurance and not for speed. A theory that was repeatedly tested on the African savanna  ;D

Where did I say I'd only be doing 2 points a month ? I did 136 points in 2019 & 63 in 2020 & a triple RRtY in 2019 taking me to Ultra RRtY, I'm currently on a double RRtY attempt.

179 points so far (I did 2x200 before I joined and misunderstood the season/membership year and didn't ask for them to be added to my record because I thought I'd missed the chance)

If I restart and only do 1xrrty a year that's 35 years; hm I'd be 74ish seems doable...

I got mine a few years ago.  I didn't count everything I'd done, just what I could tot up on the website.  It would be interesting to find out how much more there is.  One day I might actually dig out all the cards and tediously count through them.

I completely agree - the current theory is that we evolved to hunt prey to exhaustion. This was greatly helped by being one of the few animals with sweat glands. We are however not designed to run on tarmac nor live as long as we currently do (nor be so chubby) all of which ruins joints.

It was towards the end of 2012 when I copied the details from my brevet cards into an Excel spreadsheet that I realised I was in striking distance of 1000 points. 480 of my points were from before 2000 and I worked out that I needed 117 points in the 2013 season to reach 1000. The LEL and preparation significantly added to the tally, but with 10 days to go I was still 12 points short and only had one day of annual leave left.

I had entered a 200 around the Yorkshire Dales from Richmond and decided to ECE it to a 600 by riding through the Friday and Saturday nights. It would have been more sensible to ride 200km DIYs each way, but I scraped round the 600 in about 39 hours so all was good. The following Saturday was the local Roses to Wrags 200 plus 100km ECE. I couldn't ride on the Sunday so took Monday 30th September 2013 off work and rode a DIY 300 to Hunstanton and back on the last day of the season to round off my total to 1000 points.

RRTY is definitely good for chipping away at the target as well as keeping in reasonable shape over the winter, especially if you keep more than one going at a time. Other targets like SR series add to the total and riding a 1000km plus event each year gives your total a big boost.

I have spent a very enjoyable couple of hours digging through old brevet cards and have filled in years 93-99 and am now on 891 points.  At my current rate I could get there end of 2022.  It should be before I turn 50.

my typical audax year is/was one very long audax, sr series and a few 2-300's; never cared about the points. but 1000pts is definitely doable, many years left still (fingers crossed, haha!). well done to all who made it there and good luck for those on their way!

my vague goal is to "cycle to the moon", which is a fair amount of riding to stay in good shape, see lots, explore - without overdoing it.

There’s lots of things to chase.   I passed 260,000 lifetime miles yesterday.  Next year should, hopefully, bring my 25th SR series.

I have been incredibly lucky with my health and family so far.

Indeed. In fact there was a very nice review of the evidence for this in Nature a few years ago. Abstract here https://www.nature.com/articles/nature03052 and I'd be happy to share the full paper if anyone is interested and messages me.

Just looked at this again following the conclusion of the 2021 audax year

My total now is 665.

200km : 152
300km : 29
400km : 23
500km : 2
600km : 21
1000km : 1
1200km : 3

I have now broken through the 150 tally for 200km events  O:-)

Edit - I rode my 1st 200km as a non member / teenager in 1982 but the points above start in 2001.  Im 56 now.  Plenty time.

Checked my points

220, starting in the 2016 season, excluding 2016 and the 2020 interruption I'm averaging 45 points per year, which means I am still 17 years away. That's a lot of riding?

46x200
12x300
8x400
3x600
3x1000
1x1200

There’s some awards you realise you are never going to reach.  I simply don’t rack up enough audax points each year to even think of this one. Impressed by those who do achieve this one though.

Just updated my tracker dashboard up to the end of the 2021 season.
 5 seasons and 263 pts. With Covid impacts for two of those I'm quite happy.

I think about the 100 points in a year award like that, whereas 50 points a year over 20 years doesn't seem impossible

I suppose it depends what age you started riding audaxes, your rate if consumption of them, and just how long you intend to keep going at it.  Plus how much audax is your core hobby and how much it is one that is mixed in with other hobbies.

Certainly not impossible but does require quite a bit of dedication to audax over a long time span.  Which excludes other things you might want to do with your weekends / free time.

Just looking at the list shows how few have gained it over the years. It’s certainly an impressive one to achieve.

49 points this year which takes me to 621 so still a long way off but not totally out of reach if I could keep going at around 50 points per year with a few more in the next PBP year ... maybe
Cummulative event numbers from 2012/13 to present day
200s = 171
300s = 37
400s = 15
600s = 9
1000s= 3
12000s = 2

I did my first Audax in 2013, but didn't really start doing them seriously until 2016. Last couple of years have been quiet, but I intend to ride a lot more this year. I presume the rides must be 200km+, which is my understanding of BR.

Total: 434

200: 133
300: 14
400: 10
600: 5
1000: 3
1200: 1
1400: 1

Eddington: 133 miles    Max square: 43x43

Just realized I'd never tallied up my points: For 215 points (wonder if I can hit the 1/4 way mark this season)

200         52
300         9
400         7
600         5
1000         1
1200         1
Plus 1x Arrow @ 4 points

994 as at last week.

Fenland Friends this weekend should complete the 100,000.

I needed to go back to paper records for 93-99 and I am in correspondence with the recorder to provide backing data.   30 years.....I should probably get a new hobby.
