Facebook and disabled account . . .
« on: 30 July, 2021, 08:37:02 am »
I'm not interested in all the FB dross other than the marketplace to buy and sell stuff.

I joined at the start of last week - all OK so far "welcome to FB" etc  - on Thursday I got an item from someone on the marketplace - all OK so far - then enquired of another item, got a reply, I then asked another question and got a reply - about 10 minutes later my account was disabled with a "violation" - but not what that was.   I completed the "review" couple of questions.    FB now saying account is permanently disabled with no explanation.

There appears to be no way to ask FB what I might have violated . . . . is there any sort of contact info (the FAQs don't help)

The one thing I did do when opening the account was to pretty much disable all the find friends, be found, post crap options - has that offended them?

It's a warning Rob.  Heed the warning and walk away.  😉

That did cross my mind - but using the marketplace is potentially useful to buy and sell so I'll leave it a week or so and then register another email address.

Although I would like to know why the apparent Draconian action?

Presumably creating an account and proceeding directly to selling stuff, rather than spweing personal data everywhere and lucrative 'engagement' trips some spamminess filter or something.

Or it might be a mistake.  Either way, they don't care.

Must be pretty shitty to have to rely on Facebook for your business, when this sort of thing can happen without warning.

I was actually buying not selling . . . .  I'm not looking to create a business on FB and would be a net buyer as I have better marketing outlets for my stuff (which is pretty much 100% recycling, so good for the planet)

It's the "Why did they do it, what have I done?" and not being able to find out which is what's annoying.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the time this sort of thing happens because someone else is repeatedly trying to log in to the account.  Either as a cracking attempt, or because they don't know their own login.

I can't answer either as I refused to sign up to FB until I felt the peer pressure to see what the family were posting and trying to integrate with them.  After a short while I realised what an awful place it was.  A bit later I think I'd upset every family member (and some who I hosted when they stayed with me said "you are so much nicer in real life than online").

I deleted my account and have no intention of going back.

A local computer shop's window offers web hosting, with contact details being facebook site!   I just burst out laughing as if they offer web hosting then surely they can set up their own website instead of relying on farcebook?

Mrs Nutty is a heavy user, together with buying/selling.  About 80% of buyers never bother turning up - and all she's selling is used childrens clothes at ~£2 so it's not as if it's a business.

Hmm - "joined" again two days ago with a different, but genuine, email addy etc - have not accessed since until this morning when "your account has been disabled" - again citing the violation of community standards.

The links to display "community standards" and  "prove to us who you are" didn't work.

WTF is going on?

I shall try again in a couple of weeks . . .

If you're using a browser, remove any Facebook cookies first.

Yep - was using PC/Firefox browser - had done that and re-booted the router to get another IP address . . . .  I shall use MS Explorer/Edge next time I give it a go.

BUT why I was kicked off the first time still remains a mystery?

Maybe it objects to your email domain?

Are you using your real name or something obviously fake?

(Assuming you weren’t born with an obviously fake name)

I did wonder if it might be an example of the Scunthorpe problem.

Yep - real name - and domain should be OK - perhaps I'll try with another when I join again
