It’s a feet first type entry.
aka "canvas coffin".

If it were made of canvas yes, but not nearly as low as those old designs.

I'm not familiar with the old designs you refer to, but "nylon coffin" doesn't alliterate.

Silnylon sarcophagus?

It’s been far too long since I last camped. I should use the stuff I have before reading this thread!

A long titanium spork, an ex German forces rubberised groundsheet and a 80gsm tarp.

German rubberwear......?    That's a specialised item for a camping trip.......... :jurek:

I've got a groundsheet, bivi & tarp, but have never gotten around to using them.  Too comfy in a tent.

The groundsheet is approx 2 x1m and reputedly strong defence against perforations. For a few quids why not. If a 3mm closed cell mat was available that would also be good. I have several cellular mats but they are really awkward to carry on the bike due to volume when fully loaded but great for chucking into tht back of the car.

They were all the rage in the 80s in the mountain marathon and ultra  back packing events.  But best used wild camping rather than campsite.

A Thermarest pillow stuff sack, because it seems a neat way of using a clothes bag for a pillow (yes, I could just use a standard drybag, but I don't like the texture), and a tiny table. Have to say, I was slightly underwhelmed upon opening the latter: £15 for that? Hopefully it'll prove useful, if I ever get out camping again (instead of going anywhere, I'm just buying stuff ).

Podsac - x2 fork bags from PlanetX via Amazon. They're the 4 litre ones and I think they may be good for nothing  since a quick look shows that I can't fit my tent or sleeping bag in, even though they are quite small but obviously not small enough!

You can probably stuff clothes in there though.

Indeed. I'm rethinking my packing plan as I'd like to remove some weight from the saddle bag to stop it swaying so much when out of the saddle. Clothes, toolkit, cooking stuff would be good candidates.

When I got my fork bags a few years ago, I had the same thoughts as you: sleeping bag one side, tent the other. Found neither would fit. So I used them for clothes: riding clothes one side, civvies the other, and a few soft things like towel to fill the gaps. I don't think hard objects like cooking kit would be good candidates, though something smaller like toolkit might be good. But you'll have to try and see! I now have a smaller sleeping bag and tent, but so far this has meant that I've only needed rear panniers...
