I should have added that this is merely idle musing for me as I'm not out this evening.

You sold us a dummy there then!  ;D

OK - for tonight (assuming I'm not Billy-no-mates) - how about a visit to The Compasses at Littley Green?

Sorry Oaky, I think I'm going to leave you as Billy-no-mates tonight  :-[
A few thorns in the road for getting out tonight, so best to say not able to come out to play at this stage  :-\

OK - I have established that chief will be there tonight, so I won't be Billy-no-mates after all...  I'm aiming for an 8:30 arrival at the Compasses, via this direct route.

Ah, Colam Lane, North Hill's western escarpment, very nice

This morning I went up and down some of North Hill on bridleways through the woods.  Didn't see any bears.  I was inspired by bobb.

PS - bobb, I have established you can't buy tartan Rainlegs   :'(

Did you do the bit on the other side off Gay Bowers/Copt Hill? That's where the real action is!

What do we call that anyway? South Hill?!
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

I think so.  You mean the bridleway that drops down to Riffhams Chase?  I enjoyed that.

Regarding Rainlegs, they don't make a tartan version but strangely they do make a camouflage version.  This presumably for when you're on covert operations behind enemy lines - could be handy.

Oh no, that's not it! That's just a little whizz through the woods! The bit I'm talking about is on the other side of the main road through Danbury. Carry on up North Hill/The Ridge/Lt Baddow Rd to the double mini roundabout at Eves Corner. Then turn left, then right into Gay Bowers Lane and immediately right into Copt Hill. There are two entrances to some bridle paths on Copt Hill. The second entrance (by a big house) takes you into some insane MTB mayhem! You'd know about it if you went there - massive berms, bumps and drop offs including "The Canyon" which you cannot miss as the name suggests!

And stop talking about rainlegs!
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

bobb - I will give your dirt tracks a go although my technical bike handling skills are pretty poor.  I had a lovely ride today, it didn't rain and my legs felt fresh!

chief - we've missed you  :-*  That BMX track looks ace, can you use any MTB type bike (i.e one with mudguards)?  Could be a good place to hone my off road skills ready for bobb's mucky tracks.  And who is this doctor of whom you speak???

After a Wibbler's IPA to get into our flow, chief and I moved onto the Bishop Nick "Heresy" until that ran out, then onto the Wibbler's Gold (since the IPA also ran out) to finish.

Pickled eggs, crisps and wasabi coated nuts were munched.

I tootled back to chief's place to have a look at his latest restoration project, prod various bits of rotting woodwork (oh and drink Speckled Hen and eat haribo).

Sorry I wasn't able to join you, I did have a thought .........

Mid Essex End of Week Series = Meeows.

For the odd occasions when Chief and I manage a Friday 1700 hrs convention. Meeows is like a proper word and that.

Just wanted to share that.

BTW - at the risk of planning too far ahead: my CAMRA update email informs me that the White Hart at Margaretting Tye (aka Tiger's Island) will be having a beer festival from Tuesday until Saturday, so that could be worth a visit next Weds evening.

'hte doctor' there is only one of them  :D

I think it's just an open place, probably packed in the evenings by yuff but likely empty in the nocturnal hours

I'm a little in a daze of the events of Wedneday evening and only have the following memories:
  • Great atmosphere in the pub, even the dominos couldn't stop it
  • Eating a very large amount of pickled eggs some of which were served in suitable packet of crisps
  • A turkish man called Jim
  • The skid incident being brought up by the bar lady who didn't seem very happy about it   :-X
  • Getting up to get the last round of the evening and being pointed to the clock which showed 23:55
  • Drinking further beer in my garage with Oaky and looking at the clock when he'd gone at ~02:30
  • Waking up and cycling to the station for a days work at 07:00
Another splendid evening out
